Why We Like The Rocky Mountain Altitude Carbon 50 Shimano Mountain Bike
Whether it's racing or just demanding weekend rides, when our goal is to get down the mountain the fastest way possible, the Rocky Mountain Altitude is one of the first bikes that comes to mind. The Altitude is Rocky Mountain’s enduro race bike and features 160mm of Smoothlink suspension to bring us a slayer of a bike that lives for aggressive descents. Smoothlink suspension technology and size-specific tunes combine to give us a bike that has a balanced performance across all sizes and riding styles. The Altitude has been tuned to ride high in its travel for impressive pedaling capabilities, maintain a supportive mid-stroke to carry our speed through trail obstacles and give us enhanced bottom-out protection for aggressive riding. The Altitude is equipped with Rocky Mountain's Ride-9 adjustment system, which gives us nine different settings to customize our frame geometry to suit our riding style best. In the neutral setting, the Altitude boasts a 65-degree head tube angle and a 76-degree seat tube angle to give us a bike that descends and climbs comfortably. The long wheelbase provides stability in steeper terrain, and when that is still not enough, a 2-position chainstay adjustment gives us the option to extend our chainstays by 10mm for extra stability in steeper terrain. Lastly, Neat internal cable routing makes for tidy cable management, and integrated frame protection keeps our paint job looking new.
The Carbon 50 build of the Rocky Mountain Altitude has incredible value and is chocked full of quality components. Starting things out, Rocky Mountain's Smoothwall carbon frame is made to the highest standards for a stiff, lightweight, and durable frame. Next, Shimano's mixed SLX/XT drivetrain gives us reliable and precise shifting, while Shimano XT 4-piston brakes supply us with the stopping power we need for aggressive mountain descents. WTB ST Light i30 TCS 2.0 rims fitted with premium Maxxis enduro tires have us blasting through rock gardens, and a DT Swiss 370 hub in the rear gives us a quality rear hub that can be upgraded for faster engagement. The Fox Float X Performance rear shock features a size-specific tune for optimal performance and has a 2-position climb switch for efficient climbing, while the beefy Fox 38 Performance 170mm fork handles tech sections and drops with ease, and the compression switch and rebound adjustments allow us to set up our forks performance to meet our riding style.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
