Dreamy and attainable.

For years, Pinarello's race bikes have been firmly out of reach from the confines of most bank accounts, leaving us dreaming of the day we could add one of our own to the stable. That all changes with the 2017 Pinarello Gan RS Ultegra Complete Road Bike. Trading out the prestigious Dream Carbon found in the top-tier Dogma F8 for a more affordable carbon makeup, the Gan RS draws heavily on its pricier sibling's design and technology to bring Pinarello's renowned ride to a more attainable price point.Kitted out with Shimano's Ultegra componentry and Fulcrum Racing wheels, this build is chomping at the bit to jump off the line right out of the box.

The Gan RS presents the same eye-catching style as the Dogma F8, with its signature curves and aerodynamic detailing that make the bike just as stunning as it is fast. The main difference between the two frames is the type of carbon used to construct them. While the Dogma F8 features the best of the best Toray T1100 1K Dream Carbon with Nanoalloy Technology, the Gan RS consists of slightly more compliant T900 carbon that sacrifices a tiny bit of weight and stiffness, but drops the overall cost significantly. While this carbon is slightly less rigid than the T1100 1K, it remains a high-strength, race-worthy layup designed to ride hard and fast.

As with the Dogma F8, this frame incorporates Pinarello's trademark asymmetrical design for claimed improvements in power transfer and comfort. The asymmetry in the Gan RS' seatstays is less extreme than in the Dogma F8, resulting in a slightly more compliant and comfortable ride while still providing benefits in handling to keep you feeling solid out on the road. At the top junction of the stays, a wishbone shape provides clean lines and aerodynamic protection to keep the rear brake out of the wind.

Pinarello also incorporates the Flatback technology found in the Dogma F8 into the Gan RS, with its oval-front and flattened-back tubing throughout the frame and fork creating an aerodynamic profile that slices cleanly through the wind without any extra materials bogging down the scale. As an added touch, an integrated seat clamp and aero seat post add to the wind-cutting advantage.

The Gan RS comes complete with carefully engineered internal cable routing compatible with both mechanical and electronic shifting systems for an added dose of aerodynamics and crisp, clean lines for any setup. It's finished with a threaded Italian bottom bracket, a trend that we're happy to see resurfacing across the industry. The CNC threads provides a more consistent, solid platform for installation to do away with PressFit models' creak and longevity issues.

  • Dreamy road bike build with a more attainable price tag
  • T900 carbon fiber construction
  • Onda carbon fiber fork
  • Aerodynamic FlatBack tube shaping
  • Internal cable routing compatible provides clean lines
  • Shimano's Ultegra componentry balances high performance and cost

I'm very intrigued by the 2017 Gan RS Ultegra. On a 6-day trip in Portugal last month, we were supplied with the Angliru model with Ultegra components, which I haven't seen in the US. It was the sweetest ride, particularly uphill, that I've had in a very long time. My home bike is a early 2010's Specialized Tarmac, and the Angliru seemed like a major upgrade. My question is how the Gan Ultegra compares--would it have a similar ride to the Angliru? (I could look at the geometry, of course, but that doesn't mean a lot to my non-mechanical brain.) Thank you.

Hey David!

I just shot you an email. For anyone else interested in the GAN, I've included a brief summary of the GAN vs Angliru.

I’d summarize the difference between the two bikes by saying that the GAN is much racy-er. The geometry is going to put you in a more aggressive position, the carbon is of a much higher grade, which makes the frame stiffer and lighter, and the tube shapes are crafted with aerodynamics in mind. While the GAN is not the most aggressive bike Pinarello sells, its definitely aimed at the customer who is interested in speed. Given that, an enthusiast rider may find that the Angliru is more comfortable, and easier to handle.

Feel free to get in touch with me directly at if you'd like to discuss in more detail.

Dream Bike

So smooth and fast during my first ride, The quality was best ever with its design and toughness.

Is it possible to get this bike built up with Ultegra Di2 rather than the mechanical that it has right now??

    Hi John,

There are a few options we can do to get this bike with di2. We can add the di2 components, and ship with the mechanical ultegra. We could also do a frame up build- just the way you want with di2.
