Pro Air Cycling Shoe
Pearl Izumi is out to change how we think about lightweight, performance cycling shoes, and the Pro Air Cycling Shoe is worth considerable attention from any racer who weighs out components on a kitchen scale. Think about how excited we are when we see the speed gun light up to the pitcher's throw at over 100 miles per hour. It's thrilling, and it fills us with awe. The Pro Air comes in at 150 grams — for the size 42 — making it about the weight of a pro baseball and lighter than comparable carbon road shoes at a similar price.
Pearl Izumi developed the Pro Air with Ruckus Composites, a carbon repair brand out of Portland, Oregon, to maintain the stiffness of the predecessor, Pro Road V5, while reducing weight to virtually nothing. A mesh laminate upper and ventilated sole make up significant weight loss. Simultaneously, the lace-up design removes the structure of dials and cinch points, cleaning up the shoes' visuals and simplifying the design. We can't wait to lace-up, clip-in, and ride-on.

Really like the breathability and fit. I ride in hot weather and my fit don't even notice. An added benefit of the lightweight construction is that they dry really quickly if it happens to rain and your feet don't roast when wearing shoe covers. They also fit my narrow foot and the laces cinch up evenly. My biggest complaint is durability. Had them a few months and they are showing considerable wear and the tongue is splitting. i hope it's only the cosmetic bits that peel off.

At first I had some reservations about the laces but changed my bias. These laces give the shoe a unique custom fit and hold my feet in place without loosening over the course of ride. Roomy toe box, heels set in place, they fit quite well. Sole doesn't flex even the tiniest bit. They seem durable for their intended purpose on the road. Looks good and easy to match w other kit.... There's not much to complain about and a lot of to praise.

Okay, if you are on this site, you probably have at least 3 pairs of good road shoes already. But you don't have THESE! Big mistake. So light they float to the ground when you drop them. And the lace up - how retro is that? I use them on interval days because, it's true, you can't adjust laces on the fly, so these PI Airs are perfect for short, intense rides. But I did 3hrs in 'em too in dreadful LA heat and they were perfect for that ride as well with a little re-tie during a break. Tightening your lace ups is not the end of the world - but if you are concerned about your Strava time - you can bolt these down at the start and not have to tighten. I just don't ride that uncomfortably. Why? Anyway, buy these right now. They'll never go on sale and are too unique to become a long term item is my bet.

Wanted to love these so badly

I wanted to love these so badly. Came down to these and a pair of s-works Ares. The weight, stiffness, and fit are amazing. The toe box is f-ing phenomenal. The only problem I had and why I returned was the tongue. It's made of the same material as the shoe body and cut to a simple fine edge, that rides right into the top front of my ankle. For me, it is deal breakingly uncomfortable. If they fix this on future models, I will 100% try them again. I think these would be the PERFECT hot weather shoe.

Super light and vented. I'm a huge sucker for laces and these hit the marks. Would be great if the tongue was a little more secure, it tends to scrunch a bit. Very sheer and super breezy on hot days paired with the right socks! Not for a wide foot at all!
