Item # PLZ00S1
Canyon Shell Short
Giving the people what they want, Pearl Izumi decided to make their most popular baggies available without a liner in the Canyon Shell Short. This allows you to customize the shorts by rocking your favorite chamois or liner underneath to give you an ideal fit. As versatile as ever, these shorts still have all the town or trail features you could look for, like two hand pockets, a zippered cargo pocket, and a rear security pocket for total storage, along with the high-rise rear waistband with hook-and-loop adjustments to hold these shorts perfectly in place. The lightweight Transfer Woven fabric dries quickly and moves with you, while a DWR finish helps shed trail spray and keeps you looking fresh after the ride.
- Light, sleek trail shorts without a liner for versatile use
- Transfer Woven fabric dries quickly and sheds light precipitation
- Regular fit provides reliable coverage in the saddle
- Multiple pockets bring along your map, snacks, and music
- Adjustable waist customizes an exact fit
- Seamless crotch panel construction adds comfort in the saddle

Tight-fitting

I am a 33 or 34 waist, ordered the 34. I had another pair of Pearl Izumi MTB shorts that I loved but the closure snap is broken so I was hoping these would be a good replacement. While the material, design, and features were exactly what I wanted, I had to return these because the fit was so uncomfortable when I tried them on. These were designed to be worn with a liner. Well when I put on one of my trusty liners and then put these on, the fit was very tight in the crotch and thighs just standing. The fit is even worse when on a bike. I have no problem with tight fitting liners, I want my MTB shorts to add another layer of protection, storage, and to be comfortable. Unless you like tight-fitting MTB shorts, I'd avoid these.

These are a great pair of shorts. I use a separate liner which doesn't seem to affect the wear at all. Love the pockets (some are a little shallow). Size was a little large but there are adjusters on the inside waistband so it fits perfectly.

I don't know why, but I really tried not to buy these shorts. Actually that's a lie - I do know why. Because my 8 year old son started hassling me about my ever growing collection of Pearl Izumi cycling gear. So I figured I would try something different, and targeted spending $50 on a pair of black overshorts that weren't Pearl Izumi. Even though I really wanted these shorts. I bought a product by Sportful (?) called a Giara(?) Overshort. Being a dedicated Pearl Izumi customer, my expectations were high, and these didn't meet the standard across the board. Plus the size large fit more like a medium. Then I purchased a Louis Garneau Ranger short that featured a built in liner. I was trying to avoid this, but gave it a shot as there's not much available at the price I targeted. The Garneau product was OK, but not what I was expecting and none of the pockets zipped - all were also very shallow and essentially useless for bouncing around on a bike. After returning both and being way over budget when figuring in shipping, I reluctantly bought these. And then Backcountry gave me a discount at checkout, putting them right at $50. Thanks Backcountry. But don't you have analytics or something to read my consumer mind? Couldn't you have sent me an email addressing my concerns and offering me the discount up front on the product I really wanted? Would have saved me a lot of work. And money spent shipping and returning shorts that I didn't like. I mean I love your website and company, but something for you to work on - Reading peoples minds. Over the internet. So you can pre-emptively offer them a discount. And then they buy what they really want. Would make the whole sales process a lot easier. Anyhow, the shorts. These are a typical Pearl Izumi near perfect product. Material is very nice - light, but not fragile feeling. Not worried about snags. Construction quality is spot on. Great features. Front pockets are big and loose, but the back pocket zips and so does the thigh pocket which is perfect for a phone. The waist adjustment actually works, and doesn't undo itself halfway through a ride. My only criticism is that they could use some of that silicone grippy stuff on the inside of the waistband to help keep them up.

Fabric performs as advertised and the fit is what was expected. Side cargo pocket fits a phone (barely) so it's the right size. Overall pretty happy with these.
