Sizing way off

The sizing chart provided by Backcountry recommended EU 42 for US 9.5, I often wear 9 or 9.5, and 42-43, but could barely get this shoe on my foot, extremely tight. Granted, I have a wide foot, which is why I tried these as they are advertised as Wide. Shoe is not wide. The sizing chart on the Northwave site recommended EU 41 based on foot measurement!

Recommended by a gearhead as a good option for wide feet, Not wide enough. So wondering why I have to pay return shipping? Nice looking and well made
