The Mercury S5 Disc Wheels strike a fine balance between a lightweight climbing wheel and a purely aero wheel, featuring a slightly shallower 50mm rim depth that's just as happy grinding up a mountain pass as it is sprinting along flat tarmac and gently sloping roads.

The S5's construction uses Mercury's Dual Carbon Layer Process, or DLP. DLP blends high and mid-moduli carbon fibers to offer the best balance between the lightweight and stiffness of the former and the fatigue-resistance and durability of the latter. The result is a rim that remains stiff under hard sprinting efforts, yet offers a greater degree of compliance over rough roads.

The S5s are finished off with Sapim's reliable Race spokes and Mercury's own hubs. The rear hub includes a generous six pawls for snappy engagement, and the front hub has an extra-wide 70 millimeter flange for reduced flex under hard efforts and confident stability at speed. Both hubs have an oversized axle and oversize sealed bearings that work together to ensure stiffness and long-term durability.

  • Carbon fiber road wheels well-suited to all-around riding
  • Carbon layup finds the ideal balance of stiffness and compliance
  • 50mm rim depth offers aero gains without giving up versatility
  • Reliable Mercury sealed bearing hub with snappy engagement
  • Tubeless compatibility for increased grip and comfort
  • Hand-built in Utah by Mercury's expert wheel builders
  • Includes rim strips, valve extenders, cassette spacer
  • Disc brake only, 12mm thru-axle hubs

Nice job Mercury!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The S5's are a perfect depth for me. I am a lighter rider, so am highly susceptible to any sort of winds and ride mostly on or near the Monterey coast where it is always windy.

I was wondering, does anyone know if these are adaptable to QR axles? I have a Cannondale caad12. If so what parts would I need? thanks!

they are adaptable. All you have to do is reach out to and they will send you a set with your new purchase.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

For the first ride, I threw them in my "go to" bike (Tarmac) and rode my regular Tuesday night 30 mile group ride. I immediately noticed a difference in cornering and out of the saddle sprints. They track nicely and didn't notice any lateral flex.
Second ride would be a century where at the end of the ride I didn't feel beat up and felt better than I usually do after a century. They handled nicely even with some severe cross winds.
My third ride will be over the labor day weekend where I will be riding 3 days in a row for 200 miles. The route has over 5K feet of climbing, so am anxious to see how they perform in the hills.

2 thumbs up

great wheels.
smooth bearings and I like the gun metal gray hubs.

I have my the Peter Sagan Gran Fondo coming up and wanted to roll a faster set of wheels. Was a snap to place my new DA cassette body on and shifts perfectly.
The wheels are light and feel like a nice pair of wheels. You can tell the quality is there.

Best $$ spent

You always hear about wheels making the biggest difference on your bike, but never thought I was good enough.
Raced in my third Tri ever and actually beat the guy I have been gunning for in the previous two races. He usually beats me in the overall time and bike leg.
Not this time! I beat him by over 2 minutes on the bike alone and by 3 minutes overall!!
I also broke my previous average speed by 1.6 mph.

I just upgraded my stock wheels on my Ridley to these full carbon wheels. I can’t believe these wheels are sub $1000. Great all around wheelset that actually light weight. Nice rolling hubs.
