Description

Invisible comfort.

Investing in a pair of the Louis Garneau men's 2002 MTB Inner Bib Shorts gives you the ability to add long-term comfort to almost any pair of baggies. We know, we know — these next-to-skin bibs pretty closely resemble road Lycra, but they're designed to be layered under mountain clothes, so you won't end up looking like a roadie at your next enduro race.

Garneau uses stretchy, moisture-wicking Drytex 2002 to provide the shorts with a contoured fit that won't shift or move around underneath your outer shorts while side braids along the outside of each leg give you the freedom to adjust the shorts' positioning. The shorts are lined with Garneau's Profile MTB chamois, which provides seamless construction and multi-layer cushioning along smooth, beveled edges for reduced fatigue while you ride. It's constructed on a mountain-specific platform as well, so it will move with you across changing terrain while maintaining plenty of breathability. Two rear pockets provide space for ride fuel and other essentials, and wide Powerband cuffs promise to keep the legs firmly in place without impeding your circulation.

Comfort

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Stay comfortable even after hours of single track, I always wear these bibs under my baggie shorts for added padding.

What's up with the pad?

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I have a pair of DirtBaggies that I love for MTBing, regardless of the distance. But the inner shorts are $90 and when I saw these LG at half the price I jump at them. When I got them I was surprised by the pad, it's the narrowest pad I've seen. The fit was as expected, the bib straps run a bit long, but still fit OK and the leg length is really short, but that's the idea since they are meant to be used under baggies.

I used them today for the first time and what better test than an hour on the trainer, I know, that's what they're meant for, but it's still a good test. As expected, the pad is too narrow between the legs, so there's a bit of rubbing where the leg meets your body and the rear of the pad is barely as wide as my saddle and I use a narrow saddle! So, so far, not good. Granted I need to test them under baggies on an actual MTB ride, but first impressions are not good.
