I've tried all the major brands and this is the best shoe yet. My slightly wide forefoot is comfortable after hours on the bike. couldn't be happier. Will get the mountain bike version as soon as I can.

These things are like slippers. I have weird low volume feet and can never find shoes that fit well. Ive tried specialized, giro, pearl, sidi, bont, and others. These are the best I've found, they have pretty much no hot spots, the heel is cupped and can be molded, the uppers wrap around you foot and can fit most shapes. They run large, usually I wear a 41.5-42 in most brands but went with a 41 for Lake. The only weird thing is the heel pad screws are kind of large so if you use an aftermarket insole, it has to be thick or you feel them. **One thing I found that makes them especially comfortable is FootBalance heat moldable insoles.

Finally, Perfect Shoes

These are incredibly comfortable and will probably suit a wide range of foot shapes and sizes. They are extremely adjustable, extremely comfortable and plenty stiff in the sole. Through in your favorite or custom insoles and your feet are going to love you forever. They are definitely not lightweight, but trying to save weight in your shoes is stupid. Comfort should always be your highest priority. Maybe through stiffness in the sole in as the second highest. On soles: they are plenty stiff. Not discernible flex. I would buy these shoes 10/10 times. I settled for imperfect shoes for the first 10 years of cycling career---that's dumb. My only regret is having found these shoes sooner.

I have about 400 miles in these shoes now, and my reactions pretty much mirror bri109857565's. The measurement instructions on the Lake website let me accurately choose the right size. The separate bolas for the fore-foot and mid-foot let me snug the shoes to my wedge-shaped feet (narrow heels, wide toes) without pinching anywhere. The moldable heel cup is crucial to retain my narrow heel (I put them in the oven, just as Lake recommends). Arch support is adequate for my mid-height arches. Metatarsal support is ok, although I'd prefer the bump to be just a little taller. I like the road shoes so much I've ordered a pair of the similar MX241 for off-road riding.

Finally, shoes that truly fit my feet!

After a year of use, I'm seriously impressed with these shoes! I have wide feet with narrow heels (yeah, like a duck) and have always had a hard time finding comfortable cycling shoes. After being pretty happy with other Lake shoes, I did some research on their various lasts and as it turns out, the "Competition" last used in the CX241 is shaped more like my feet. They also provide actual measurements for all sizes and lasts on their website (https://lakecycling.com/pages/sizing-charts), so you can compare tracings of your feet to them to get an accurate fit. I didn't even have to go with their wide option to get a near-perfect fit. The heels are heat-moldable and I could probably perfect the fit by molding them, but I haven't yet. They were very comfortable right out of the box and were broken in as much as necessary after a couple of rides. Even the somewhat skimpy-looking insoles work quite well. The uppers are an interesting combination of a perforated foam and mesh inner liner, with fabric-backed, perforated leather panels that over-wrap the liner and provide the closure system. There are openings in the leather at common pressure points, such as the base of the large and small toes, which is absolutely brilliant! This construction allows the shoe to mold to your foot readily and hold it securely without having to be overly tight. It’s also quite airy and cool, although I did have to make one minor modification to improve airflow. The fabric on the inside of the leather panels is not perforated, so I poked an awl through the vent holes in the leather to open holes in the fabric. An interesting by-product of this multi-layer, foam/mesh liner construction is that once you put covers over the shoes, they trap air really well and are actually quite warm. It also allows the shoes to expand to accommodate thicker socks without creating any blood flow restrictions. My feet have been perfectly comfortable down to 40 degrees F with shoe covers and medium weight wool socks. I guess I’ll save my winter shoes (which are also Lakes) for colder temps. UPDATE: I delayed molding the heels until recently, when I purchased the matching MX241 for off-road use. I used a different method than Lake recommends. I heated a large bowl of water to 200 degrees, removed the insole, put the heel of the shoe in a thin plastic bag, tucked the plastic into the heel, then submerged the heel in the water for 90 seconds. It became very pliable and after removing the bag and reinserting the insole, it was easy to mold for a perfect fit. It took more time to heat the water than to mold the four shoes and it's definitely worth doing.

My New Favorite Shoes

These are simply the best road shoes I've ever owned. I've been a Sidi wearer for over 25 years and will never go back. The genius design of these shoes is great for wide feet, plus it ensures a great fit. They also look Pro! From a sizing perspective, I traced my foot and came up with a 44.5 but I ordered both 44.5 and 45 to see which fit better. I wear a Sidi 45 and have a US size 11 foot. The 44.5 was a better fit for me. The heat mold-able heel cup is really helpful, but the top of the heal still stays a bit wider than Sidi.

This is my second pair of Lake road shoes. I have a pair of CX 237 road shoes which are great, I really like the wide toe box of the lake shoes, which are a good choice for my feet since I have issues with a Morton's Neuroma on one foot. The issue I had with my CX 237s was that during indoor winter training the leather heel lining would get wet from sweat then dry out and eventually started to crack as it became less supple. Probably my fault for not conditioning the leather, but I was looking for a Lake shoe that had a synthetic liner that would dry better and be more durable. The CX 241 seemed to fit the bill. After using the shoe for a couple of months I think I'm ready to review it. Like all Lake shoes it requires little to no break in time to fit like a glove. These shoes are the most comfortable I've worn. The carbon sole is very stiff and easy to position cleats precisely were you want them to be. The boa retention system allows perfect fit and two-way adjustment on the fly. I was a bit concerned about the mesh on the sides and if the shoe would be durable, but so far it's been fine and I I don't think it will be a problem. The big plus of the mess is that the shoes dry very quickly when wet- from soaked to totally dry over night after a long rainy ride. With all the mesh you will probably want to wear shoe covers on really cool fall or spring days. Sizing is pretty true. I have worn a size 45.5 in Sidis and 45 in Fiziks and the 45 is perfect for me in the Lake. My foot tends to be a bit narrow, but the heel cup in the Lake fits fine All-in-all I'm very please with the CX 241s and the two-way adjustability of the boa system and moldable heel cup are nice upgrades from the 237s and for me worth the greater price.
