Road Machine Smart 2 Trainer

Turn over a new leaf this winter cycling season with the Road Machine Smart 2 Trainer from Kinetic. It provides accurate power readings and is pretty affordable, letting you tap into app-based power training and the ability to virtually race against other cyclists while on its benchmark fluid trainer. It includes the Kinetic inRide 3 Power Sensor technology to transmit your real-time data to apps like Kinetic Fit, Zwift, TrainerRoad, and the like, using ANT+, ANT+ FE-C, and Bluetooth FTMS signals to your smartphone, tablet or laptop. It doesn't require any additional sensors to use.

The unit itself provides a realistic road feel with its precision-calibrated fluid resistance unit and it's incredibly quiet. Its stable, durable frame accommodates wheels ranging from 22 to 29-inches and its rubberized feet hold up to the important to note that the fluid resistance adjusts with wheel speed and gearing choice and is not app controlled.

The large diameter roller keeps tire wear and slippage to a minimum and the trainer folds flat for easy storage and to take to races.

  • Suffers indoors with more fun and structure
  • Tracks and displays ride data including power
  • Fluid resistance resist fluctuation with temperature changes
  • Cooling fins dissipate heat to keep resistance steady
  • Heavy flywheel better replicates road feel
  • Wirelessly syncs with head units, phones, and training apps
  • Folding body stores and travels easily

What do you think about this product?

I am a first time bike trainer customer. I already have a road bike and cleats, etc., to ride outdoors. Do I need any equipment other than a trainer like this one to ride indoors? For example, this page suggests a trainer thru-axle, trainer tire, and training block. Is it necessary to buy any additional equipment like this or is everything I need included with the trainer itself?

Will this trainer accommodate a Fuji SL2.3 or a Raleigh Capri Road Bikes?

Great Value

I've used it several times

Here in the desert southwest our prime season for riding outdoors is fall, winter, and spring. Summer temps can be too hot to ride outside unless you can, and are willing to get up before sunrise, which isn't always possible. The answer? The Kinetic Road Machine Smart 2. This trainer is very quiet and has a very nice "road feel". It paired seamlessly to the The Sufferfest after purchasing an ANT+ dongle (USB 2) and a 3m USB cable. It also paired easily to my Bryton 410 Heart Rate Monitor. Overall, this is a great trainer for the money.

Works with Zwift, Garmin, etc.

I've put it through the wringer

Primary use is for bad weather in winter to train, once I upgraded the sensor on the back of the trainer (from old black one to new green one), I discovered I could use this trainer in Zwift and also for my Garmin 520 plus, they both pickup power and speed, using either ANT+ or bluetooth. This doe not have an "ERG" mode, it's a manual, fluid trainer, so it can only get 4 stars. Cheap when on sale and it does the job, if you want 5 stars, get a Top level trainer that has ERG mode (TACX, etc.). After 6+ months of use and over 1,000+ miles, one worn out road tire (these eat regular tires!), and one worn out trainer tire, I can say from experience, ensure you get a high quality, trainer specific tire. They last way longer than regular road use tires. Glad I got this Kinetic trainer, worth it and Zwift is better than just grinding out miles looking at your Garmin bike computer!
