4000 Ultegra Complete Tri Bike - 2016

Kestrel's signature swooping lines have held court at triathlons across the world for decades. Named after the original carbon triathlon bike, the 1987 4000, the 2016 Kestrel 4000 Ultegra Complete Tri Bike delivers long-mile comfort and wind-tunnel tested speed. Kitted out with a mix of Oval Concepts, Shimano Ultegra, and Dura-Ace componentry, this bike is raring to fly out of transition.

This latest version of the 4000 is constructed out of super stiff and lightweight 800K high-modulus carbon fiber for impeccable power transfer and snappy handling. During the molding process, Kestrel utilizes polyurethane molding inside the bottom bracket, head tube, and other high-stress areas to minimize carbon wrinkles, which is said to optimize strength while minimizing weight. Each 4000 utilizes size-specific tube dimensions, shapes, and layup patterns to preserve consistent ride quality across the range of frame sizes.

To increase comfort over hours-long bike sections, the 4000 boasts a slightly longer head tube than the more stem-slammed, sprint-focused rigs, allowing for more upright and comfortable positioning options, which should lead to less fatigue when dismounting to embark on the run. Out back, the rear triangle has been reworked to increase clearance for compatibility with the shifting trends towards wider deep-dish rims, all without impacting aerodynamics. As a final touch, the vertical dropouts allow 8mm of adjustability to fine-tune your fit.
