Why We Like The Ibis Ripley XT Carbon Wheel Mountain Bike
Ibis is back with their new Ripley, featuring a redesigned frame shape, ramped-up suspension travel numbers, and revised geometry to bring us the best iteration of the Ripley to date. Now sporting 130mm of DW-Link suspension, the Ripley is efficient all over the mountain, flies up climbs, and descends with control. The front end of the Ripley receives a 140mm fork and 64.9-degree head tube angle, and paired with its longer wheelbase and reach, we are confident and stable on the steepest trails we can muster up. With the release of the Ripmo and Ripley, ibis pulled out all the stops on the sizing and fitment. Now available in five sizes, the Ripley receives a huge improvement in sizing, giving every rider a more accurate fit. Additionally, size-specific chainstays, seat tube angles, and bottom bracket heights provide a big update in terms of proportional geometry for every sized frame, resulting in a more balanced fit and feel. The Ripley has the best of both worlds and comes stock with 29-inch wheels but deploys mixed-wheel compatibility with a simple turn of the flip chip on the rear shock link, allowing us to easily install a 27.5-inch rear wheel for more agility. Last but certainly not least, Ibis surprised us with their new internal frame storage system, featuring a unique lever-action door and special edition Ibis x Cotopaxi storage bags.
The Shimano XT Carbon Wheel build sports a quality Shimano drivetrain and brakes, top-tier suspension, and upgraded carbon wheels for dominance on the trails. Ibis's carbon frame is made with premium materials and has a great reputation for being durable. Next, Shimano's XT drivetrain equips us with a precise 12-speed drivetrain to excel on the trails, and a wide-range gearing for getting up any technical climb. Next, a Fox Factory DPS rear shock grips the ground for relentless traction, while the Fox Float 34 Factory 140mm fork absorbs bigger hits and is super adjustable so we can tune it to our riding style. Finally, for a top-tier wheelset, this build is upgraded with Industry Nine carbon fiber rims to ensure a lighter overall weight, precise handling, and reduced vibrations from the trail.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
