Weekend adventures.

If your weekend agenda includes mashing up climbs, shredding descents, and taking in beautiful ridgeline views, make sure to bring along the Giro Montara MIPS Helmet. Designed for long days spent on the trails, the Montara is constructed with a durable In-Mold polycarbonate shell surrounding an impact-absorbing EPS foam liner and Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) so you can bring industry-leading tech along for the ride.

The big deal with MIPS technology is its ability to reduce impact force in the event of a crash. MIPS consists of a strategically anchored, thin liner on the inside of the helmet that looks exceptionally simple, but serves a big purpose. That little liner is designed to move independently of the helmet shell and diffuse certain types of impact force better than standard, non-MIPS helmets.

Beyond impacts, Giro ensures the Montara won't slow you down by designing it to integrate with your other riding gear, including a built-in camera mount with a breakaway design. Further, Giro's P.O.V. Plus visor adjustment system allows you to adjust the visor to accommodate full goggles with the helmet. Strap grippers are included on the back of the helmet to keep the goggles in place.

To keep the helmet from feeling cumbersome on hot days and long climbs, Giro created space for 16 vents with internal channeling for efficient air flow. The Montara is lined with hydrophilic, anti-microbial padding that absorbs sweat and, together with the Roc Loc fit system, provides a comfortable fit against your skin.

Poor strap sizing

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wanted to really like this helmet. I've been biking for 14 years and have always fit Giro the best. I was on the cusp of a S and M, and went with the medium since the chin strap fit so much more comfortable. After several rides, I couldn't tighten down the medium anymore and had to wear a headband to make it fit well. Backcountry would not take the medium back since it had been more than 30 days. I ended up purchasing a small from another dealer and it fit my head great....but the chin strap is drastically shorter than what comes with the medium and I felt like I was being strangled. I was able to return the small to the other dealer and went with my old standby, the Hex.

First Timer Over Here

Bought this for the fiance who is new to MTB. She finds it comfortable, I find it safe.

Like a Hug for Your Head

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is the most comfortable helmet I have EVER owned. I love it!! I got the Matte Black Galaxy color and it doesn't overhead my head even in direct sunlight. I was slightly bummed that the "matte black" was a little shinier than I expected, but I love the Galaxy trim. The vents are awesome and it seriously feels like my head feels better with it on than off, but that could just be the stoke talking. The MIPS makes me feel super safe about my head and neck as well :)

    Protect your Lid

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

MIPS protection is a great thing. That added support cannot be beat. Very comfy helmet. I went with a M, I was right on the cusp of sizing and tried both S and M on...the M won . Colors are fun, fit is great, Giro helmets are made very well too, design, materials..etc... Big Fan!

Hey Marla - I am on the cusp between small and med too and trying to decide. I would rather go small if I can. I measure 55 cms around - is that your measurement? Would small have been OK for you, do you think? Thanks in advance!!

    Sweet!

I bought this helmet as a gift, and this is a great helmet! The ventilation is awesome, and the colors are great!

      Fits perfect

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: small

I find that Giro helmets fit my head really really well. It was so comfortable and easy to adjust. The ventilation is great. I have not landed on my head yet so I can't attest to the impact but it certainly feels strong.

      Love it!

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Fits great, my fiancé loves it. Looks great on her and she says it provides awesome ventilation while riding. MIPS protection is great because she has been known to fall, a lot.
