Why We Like The Giro Helios Spherical MIPS Helmet
Slotting in just above the updated Synthe MIPS II, the all-new Giro Helios Spherical Helmet serves as Giro’s premium adventure helmet. With Giro calling out the Helio’s primary safety feature in its appellation, it’s clear that the focus of cycling helmet evolution continues to be rider comfort and protection. For those unfamiliar, spherical technology is a brain-child of Bell + Giro Dome in partnership with MIPS. The unique ball-and-socket design, thankfully, is easy to conceptualize. The Helios Spherical is a Progressive Layering system with an inner and an outer liner that can rotate around each other in an impact. All you have to do to visualize this is make a fist, and then rotate your other hand over the fist. The result is a more comprehensive platform for rider protection.
Giro doesn’t stop there, however, as the Helios Spherical is aimed straight at the adventure cyclist with 15 Wind Tunnel vents and channels that run deeply in the underside of the helmet to keep heads cool during epic, route-free riding.

Great helmet
Lightweight with lots of vents for air circulation. Nice piece of cycling equipment.

Great design, bad sweat management
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Very light and airy design, and the shell within a shell MIPS design is slick - gone are the days when the MIPS helmets all were like a mushroom up top. But compared to a similarly top of the line Bell which I had previously, the sweat management is one of the worst I've used. Really no control of sweat which pours into my eyes either climbing or descending. Disappointing at this price.

This helmet saved my life

I've used it for about 3 months until I was on a very big car accident. Having this helmet on saved my life and absorbed most of the impact that the car directed towards my face and head. I wouldn't be writting this for sure if I didn't have one of these mips spherical helmets on my head at that time. I definitely will replace the damaged one with another giro but I'm saving it as a "memento mori" and I do recommend giro.

comfortable out of the box
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I started cycling one year ago and have now cycled 3,200 miles. I am now at a turning point where I learned this past month how to clip into my pedals and have been practicing on paved trails. Now that I am ready to transition back to the main road, clipped in, I wanted the most secure helmet I could find on the market so I purchased this helmet. It is comfortable out of the box and I hope to never find out how the spherical technology works. I trust the Giro brand. They make helmets for skiing and cycling, two riskiest sports. **Update** I have worn this helmet a couple times and find it super comfortable. Love it happy with my black helmet!
