What's next.

When redesigning its product line for 2016, Giordana decided to raise the top of its ceiling, creating the NX-G line to redefine the look and feel of the luxurious upper echelon of its kit. Featuring allover graduated compression and as little seaming as possible, the NX-G Gradual Compression Bib Shorts are a masterpiece in aerodynamic, next-to-skin race kit and a demonstration of what technological advances are continuing to do for cycling apparel.

One of the areas Giordana sought to improve upon across its line for 2016 was its fabric construction, and, dissatisfied with what it had already seen, the brand turned away from traditional cycling fabrics and instead looked to the swim and undergarment industry. The result is a line of proprietary fabrics that are softer and suppler than typical cycling kit but that still retain their practical functionality and durability. For the NX-G, Giordana used its 1on1 construction to craft each leg using only one piece of lightweight, compressive fabric, eliminating all but a single outer leg seam and relying on the fabric's compressive properties to keep the legs in place rather than adding leg grippers. In addition to holding the fabric in place, the compression encourages circulation through your engine and lessens soreness caused by muscle vibrations throughout the course of your ride.

Another area Giordana was less than satisfied with was the fit of its shorts in a standing position. We've come to expect high-end race kit to stretch perfectly into place once we're in the saddle but fit with an unnatural restriction while we're standing. Giordana improved on this accepted trend by adding dual-stretch perforated bib straps to the NX-G, which employ a traditionally stretchy fit from the shoulders to the chest but allow for little give in the fabric from the shoulders to the back. This allows for a more natural fit while you're standing in the shorts without affecting their ability to conform to your body position once you're stretched out over the bars in a race. Giordana constructs each perforated bib individually for each pair of shorts, so it has no need to use seaming on the fabric, instead creating a fused, flexible bib that's nothing short of an indication of the future of top-end kit.

The NX-G's Cirro S chamois only further enhances the shorts' enviable construction with a slimmer, refined design that integrates almost invisibly with the rest of the shorts. Giordana minimizes the feel and look of the chamois, striking a race-appropriate amount of bulk without eliminating its plush, long-ride cushioning. New for this year, Giordana is also introducing its Copa Mondiale, a male-specific recessed area on the top of the chamois made to improve ride quality and add all-encompassing support to an area crucial to long-term comfort.

Problem with leg elastic

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: extra large

I really like the fit and design of these bibs.. so much so that I got a second pair. However, the high-tech aspects employed here are also proving to be its downfall.

There's a film of sticky material applied to the inside of the legs, a strip that runs along the edges, to hold the bibs to your legs and keep them from riding up. Which is all good and fine, but after a couple of months of use, the material is coming off. It's really gummy, sticks to itself and my legs. Hopefully when it's completely gone the bibs will still be functional, but there's also some threads coming loose (see photo) which probably means more trouble.

This is happening on both pairs. Seems to be a design defect.

btw I always wash cold/delicate cycle and line dry. I've never had this sort of problem with any other bibs.. best to avoid buying these until Giordana works out this issue.

Best Kit Ever

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

Great bibs! Very comfortable for long rides. I saw the reviews complaining about the length of the legs but I'm 6'2 and 210lbs. and I love the fit! Will definitely buy more of kits

Thanks for the review Dave! Super helpful to get this feedback out to the community.

I hated to return them!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Size Bought: Large

These bibs were so close to being the best I'd ever tried. Compression was awesome. Workmanship was superb. The problem, however, was that they were too long -- so long that they rubbed behind my knees. That has never happened to me before. While I hated to return them, they were too expensive not to. Sorry.

I'll second that,,,big fan of Giordana bibs, especially with the Cirro chamois, but not a fan of the leg length! Hopefully, Giordana changes this up!

Extremely nice, rather expensive bibs

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Conceptually identical to Castelli's bodypaint bibs but with slightly less stretchy and therefore slightly more compressive legs. Sizing seems identical to Castelli., although legs are a bit longer. Like the bodypaint, the single seam on the legs is far nicer than multiple seams. Very comfortable, fairly low volume chamois. Shoulder straps not as soft as they should be, hopefully will soften when washed a few times. Very well made. Feel great, look great. The material of the legs is different from the material of the rest of the shorts, and the pictures make it look like a very noticeable pouch in front. This effect is much less visible in person.

Bottom line is that these are in the upper echelon of the best bib shorts and personal preferences and fit will dictate whether they are among the very best for you.

The real issue is whether these are worth a large premium over other high-end bibs, and that depends on how value-conscious you are since a number of brands I think are 80-90% as good but at 50-60% of the cost.

Ps- yes. They definitely run long but I thought not outrageously so
