Minutes matter.

Whether you're training for a marathon or just looking to track your daily activity, make every minute count with the Garmin Forerunner 230. It packs a heap of technology to keep your fitness on point and analyze every detail of your daily activity and training bouts. The 230 tracks your distance, pace, and time out on the road, metrics that can be further supplemented with heart rate and estimated VO2 Max when paired with a compatible heart rate monitor strap (sold separately). For daily life, this watch tracks steps, distance, calories, and sleep to accurately assess your non-exercise time.

The housing and crystal-clear face conceal a GPS and GLONASS antenna, which is the basis for all the activity-tracking capabilities of the Forerunner 230. It can tell you how fast you're going, how far you've gone, whether you're on pace, how fast your heart's beating, how many calories you've burned, how much elevation you've gained, how soundly you're sleeping, and host of other metrics. It even provides custom, goal-oriented workouts that are downloadable with Garmin Connect. For indoor sessions, the 230's built-in accelerometer accurately captures distance and pace on the treadmill — no need for bulky foot pods.

Once the Forerunner 230 has tracked all of these things, it can save them or automatically share them with Garmin Connect so you can see what you've done, the progress you've made, and start planning for the future. Among other things, it's compatible with ANT+, which lets your tracking devices talk to each other and share even more data. The 230 boasts a water-resistance rating of 5 ATM to withstand the forces of up to 50 meters of water and comes packaged with a charging/data clip and user manual.

It's alright

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bottom line it works and is a great watch. For some reason mine won't charge to 100% but it'll get to like 90ish. It takes forever to charge but the battery life is pretty good. Every once and a while it won't charge I don't know why but it won't. I do like it other than that. I've used it for track and it really has helped me improve. This is my first active watch and it's so nice going off my own watch instead of someone else's. I got it the night before a 5k and already could use it. Fairly simple to operate after figuring out the pathways to different things. And I PRed that race Still a lot of charging issues

Excellent watch for active person

I run 3-4 days a week for about 20 total miles per week. I bike occasionally and hike often. The Garmin Forerunner 230 is great for all of these activities. It even tracks your steps if you allow it to which is a great gage for daily activity especially if your tied to a computer all day. The charge lasts for about a month which is vastly superior to any of my last watches. It is also very light with a very comfortable band. The programing and reading of the watch is very intuitive. I highly recommend the Garmin Forerunner 230.

I got this watch so that I could be a little more aware of my activity! I wanted to be able to track my running and my biking and my general activity throughout the day. This watch does it all and more! I've been so happy with it. The GPS connects so quickly and I don't have to wait around like some older models would require. The watch itself is so user friendly which is key for me because i'm not tech savvy in the least. It's pretty much ready to use right out of the box and I really didn't have to do much to set it up. The watch band is very comfortable and it doesn't irritate my wrist at all. The look of the watch is pretty flattering as far as activity watches go. I'm very happy with the forerunner 230! I'd recommend it absolutely.

Highly Recommended!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought the Garmin Forerunner 230 for my sister to replace her aging Forerunner 15. Watching her hold her arm in the air for 10 minutes before every run to get a satellite made me sad. She loves the Forerunner 230. Satellite acquisition is super-fast. The interface and Garmin Connect App are user-friendly and easy to understand without much research or diving too deeply into the user manual. It is also the perfect size and color for a her and works seamlessly with her smart phone. Highly recommend for someone interested in counting steps, logging sleep patterns, and tracking activity but also good for those who are more extreme and want to download or purchase additional tools for additional functionality that provides more usefulness than some of the Garmin competitors. Once put this watch on, you will not want to take it off!
