The evolution of pads.

Keep mountain biking-induced bumps and bruises to a minimum with the G-Form Pro-X Compression Shorts. Their proprietary RPT padding is soft and flexible for comfort when you're riding but hardens instantly upon impact to protect your hips and tailbone when you take a slam. They also have a compression fabric that wicks sweat to keep you cool and dry.

Great for ice skating as well...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

As a senior who enjoys speed skating on natural ice (think cracks that trip the unwary) and roller skiing (hard pavement), I got these to save my hips from the bruising they've received in the past. So far, no falls to test them out, but my initial impression is that they ride up a bit leaving the top of the femur a bit exposed. Most of the padding seems to be higher on the hip than I'd prefer, maybe because these are intended for MTBing. The tail bone pad is also useless to me. Overall impression is that they are a little uncomfortable, but give me greater confidence that I'm not going to injure myself. I also have the matching elbow and knee pads, which I find bind a bit when you flex your limbs, but again, a small price to pay for safety and since they can be worn under clothing, so much less obtrusive than the dorky looking pads you strap on the outside.

Missing one thing!??

Material and padding placement is good and comfortable, but if you want seat/crotch padding then you have to double up with regular bike shorts. They need to add this feature!

    good for shorter trail rides

well these are mountain biking shorts and the hip pads are nice, but the compression material is designed for wicking more than compression. They are cool, but not a very tight wrap on my thighs. Also I was surprised they didn't come with a built in chamois ... i mean that's the padding i need the most while cycling so I felt like these were designed for skate boarders not cyclist. They were well for shorter rides where you are likely to go down hard, but not suitable for all day riding.

Randy, looks like you got the wrong shorts. G-form makes a padded bike short too, chamois included
