Essentials without sacrifice.
Minimalist gloves often forgo any frills in order to provide you with the most intimate, un-obstructed connection to the skin as possible. However, the downside is that these glove-types are generally little more than a few suede or leather panels, and don't provide much along the lines of comfort. Castelli's take on this subset, the Free Aero Race Gloves, forgoes the hard-set minimalist theme by providing thoughtful technology that enhances comfort, aerodynamics, and grip in gloves that're still simple in nature.
The long cuff of the Free Aero might be the most obvious breakaway from a peloton filled with minimalist gloves, and it's not just for image either. The pull-on design has been coupled with a laser cut, no-stitch cuff in order to provide a smooth, race-fit that reduces turbulence and effortlessly cuts through the air. Hence this gloves wind-cheating moniker.
The band is quite wide and highly elastic as to provide a snug fit that permits an uninhibited blood flow. This way, your hands will remain void of numbness, while their resistance to fatigue is highly increased. Additionally, entry and exit of the gloves is now a simplified affair. Again, separating the Free Aero from traditional minimalist gloves is a light padding on the perforated palm.
This allows the faux-suede palm to provide adequate air flow, keeping things nice and cool. Meanwhile, the light padding is just enough to take the edge off of chip-sealed roads without detracting from the required feel of the road. Additionally, the palm has a silicone print that enhances your grip on the bars in both ideal and stormy conditions.
The Castelli Free Aero Race Gloves are available in six sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the colors Mandarin, Ocean, and White.
