Estremo WS Skully Cap

When you crest over the last little kicker into the flat and take the full brunt of a mid-winter wind gust, you'll be glad to have your Castelli Estremo WS Skully Cap tucked warmly under your helmet. Panels of breathable Windstopper X-Fast fabric on the front and sides boast a water-repellent finish to fend off chilly wind and water, while cozy Warmer fabric adorns the rear. Recognizing that even having the tips of your earlobes exposed can cause ride-ending discomfort, Castelli includes soft, warm, flip-down ear panels for added protection when winter really sets in.

  • Cozy head protection against winter's chill
  • Soft fabrics and wind-blocking panels keep you warm
  • Flip-down ear panels increase protection area
  • Streamlined fit tucks neatly under your helmet

There are no flip down ear panels

Fit:
True to size

I'm holding this in my hand right now. There are no flip down ear panels. Not sure where that claim comes from but nothing flips down on this beanie. It covers my ears, just barely, and will be very nice for the relatively mild winters here in the deep south.

Does the job, but questionable quality

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

It keeps the dome warm, so it does the job. I've worn it down to 25 degrees F, and my (bald) head was never cold or uncomfortable. Nor was it sweaty, which is important. My problem with it is that it came with loose and unravelling stitching, so I wonder how long it will last. Actually, this is consistent with my experience with Castelli apparel in general. Kind've hit or miss, with some unforgivable quality issues at times.

Keeps the cold wind out!

As with most Castelli, the fit is snug. I have a shaved head, so the fit is perfect for me. It comes down far enough to cover my ears. It's a little tight, but once I get our on the bike, I don't notice it again. It does seem to have stretched a little since I first got it, which is normal, and now it fits perfectly.

Strange fit

I like that this had wind stopper fabric in the front portion. Unfortunately like most Castelli products the fit is small and this hat is a "one size fits most" so there are no other options. The problem I had is that it did not cover the bottom half of my ears. I'm sticking with my PI thermal skully which gives full ear coverage and still sits comfortably snug to the head. PI also has WS version of what I already have so I may look into that.

I agree, for me this cap didn't quite cover my ears. The thermal caps by Assos cover the ears the best and work great. Tho a little expensive. ;--)
