UMA GT Spring Fall Half-Tights
From pristine alpine climbs to lakeside descents, Switzerland is known for its world-renowned cycling, and Assos is Swiss cycling's crown jewel. For years, Assos has been surfacing impeccable materials, industry-defining fits, and pieces that offer true gains above kit of the past. When we think of cool mountain rides, transitioning seasons, and variable temperatures, we think Assos. Be it their geographical location that offers huge temperature variation in a single ride, or their knack for fabric, the designers at Assos deliver with the UMA GT Spring Fall Half-Tights.
The UMA GT Spring Fall Half-Tights are stitched together with a combination of ultra-soft, insulating fabrics to trap in heat on chilly fall sprints and spring base miles. Assos employs a careful combination of ultra-warm, and lightweight, breathable panels, utilizing front panels of RX EVO's brushed warp-knit construction that was deliberately developed to provide next level comfort on cool days, while wicking away perspiration. On the back, where more flexibility and breathability is key, Assos utilizes its RX EVO Light material for extra stretch and moisture-wicking, which isn't quite as robust as the standard RX EVO, since the back of your legs rarely see the same wind and rain as the front. Fending off showers and wheelspray from every direction is a generous ECO water-repellent and odor control treatment, which keeps the wet beading and rolling off of you so you can stay comfortable throughout the ride.
And speaking of comfort, Assos arguably shines brightest with fit, and the UMAs see the same meticulous tailoring that we've come to expect from the brand. They feature strategic paneling that falls under Assos' RegularFit category, which means they're a little less fussy to get on than some of the other options out there, but they still utilize light compression where you need it most, stabilizing and supporting your muscles while you put down major efforts. Each panel flexes with your pedal stroke, and is pre-shaped and sewn to fully wrap around your muscles while they work. Despite the name, half-tights does not refer to the total length of the UMA GT, but rather its lack of bibs, so you'll still get coverage all the way to the ankle from these tights, but with a top that skips straps for easier nature breaks.
Assos completes the UMA GT's with the UMA S7 EVO elastic interface chamois that utilizes 8mm of memory foam that's carefully tapered to provide the deepest support where you need it most, and less where you could use more relief. The chamois features 3D Waffle technology that provides three layers of perforated foam to increase breathability, and reduce weight, while the central goldenGate channel interrupts stitching along both sides of the chamois to allow for better three-dimensional freedom of movement, and reduce chaffing against your most sensitive anatomy.

What I was looking for and wanted
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I have other cycling tights. I have several pairs that are light and I wear these in the spring and fall when it is relatively warm. I also have a very heavy fleecy windproof tight. I wear that one when it is cold - like 30's and 40's. So, I wanted and needed something in the middle like when it is the high 40's and low to mid 50's. I know these European road cycling brands their sizing is small. So, I ordered up one size from my usual size which is small, and got the medium. The medium fit like a small in other brands. In fact, it fit me perfectly, including the length and I am petite. There is no zipper at the bottom of the pant just so you know.
