Wonderful Warm Boots

I've put it through the wringer

I have a heart condition that affects my circulation, making my fingers and toes very cold on winter night rides, even here on the east coast. They get cold enough that I have had long term nerve damage in my toes. I know that these boots are way over rated for the temperatures that I wore them in, but they kept my feet warm and dry and cozy all winter long. Not once were my feet hot, sweaty or uncomfortable. I never really noticed any restrictiveness while riding, although they are big boots. Given the size and the insulation, these are incredibly comfortable boots. These are awesome boots that allowed me to keep leading winter night rides, while waiting for heart surgery.

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is overkill for most conditions. I've had these on at -34C (-29F) with mid-weight merino sock for 90 min and my feet were so hot I was wondering if I should loosen the boots to cool down. I can't imagine what the rest of my outfit should be to accommodate lower temperatures to make these worth their billing. I followed 45NRTH's sizing guide and ended up at 46, usually wearing 44.5-45. That "size up" is enough for a thicker wool sock, but I can't even begin to pretend that I'd ride with my feet this warm. So, my feet are going to be loose in these boots. Works well with SM-SH51 - nothing to report there - crank arm clearance is adequate and the cleat is hidden well enough for hardwood floors. Watch the toe overlap - they're "big". I think I'll use them off the bike more since they're so warm. Maybe a "life-saver" for those with cold feet and/or with poor circulation. Can't speak to how waterproof they are - it's too cold here for any liquid, but light snow, slush and spray off the motor vehicles has been handled gracefully - the only moisture I felt was from my sweat.
