Description

Regardless of its renowned homage to carbon, Zipp realizes that aluminum is far from an outdated material. Whether you prefer it for peace of mind in the heat of the sprint or find the slight weight difference an easy way to keep your ultra-light bike above legal weight limits for your Cat 1 debut, the Zipp Service Course SL Ergo Handlebar showcases the best of aluminum's qualities -- strength, low weight, and relatively low cost.

The Zipp SL Ergo handlebars are the replacement for the Zipp CSL bars. They were designed with Zipp's SSR (Super Short Reach) dimensions -- a 70mm reach means that it is easier for riders with shorter arms and smaller hands to reach the shifters while in the drops. These dimensions are the same as the SL-70 -- the primary difference is that the tops of the SL Ergo bars have been sculpted flat to provide a substantial platform for your hands during long climbs. The cables tuck nicely underneath. The drop angle of the bars is only 20 degrees. This allows you to position your levers in the 'high-and-Belgian' style or in the flat-top neo-pro style without having to rotate your bars skyward. The drops have a 2 degree outward bend for more wrist comfort, which also minimizes bruised forearms while sprinting.

The Zipp Service Course SL Ergo Handlebars are available in 2cm increments from 38cm-44cm measured center to center, and each pair of bars fits a 31.8mm stem. They come in two colors: Polished Black, a high gloss finish with white logos, or Beyond Black, a matte black with etched logos for a stealthy look.

These have become my favorite bars. The bend, reach to drops and placement of the hoods all work for me. As well, the aesthetics are, to my eyes, superior to other bars, which when setup for proper reach to the drops, require the tops to align above horizontal. That said, it was with great frustration that I realized after six months of use that CC had shipped me the wrong size (and I cannot return them). There are no markings on the bars, which means you must trust but verify.

Can you mount the K-Edge, Wahoo or the Garmin computer mounts on this bar

I have a Garmin Edge 510 standard Out-front mount that works great. Pretty sure the K-Edge and Wahoo would be just fine, but there really isn't any surplus real estate near the stem for much else. I have my Garmin mount on one side, and a Knog Blinder 1 mini light on the other side.

Best fit bars for me

I am not very tall and apparently I have shorter arms as well, so these compact bars are perfect. The shape lets me sit in a more comfortable riding position and still reach the brakes from all hand positions. The flat top is a nice resting surface for your hands to hang out on during mellow riding or climbing

    Awesome

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have been playing around with different bars for several years and wanted a bar that had several options in the drops and allowed for extended time in the drops. The reach is perfect, the longer bottom portion in the drops makes riding their for hours extremely comfortable and sprinting is great. The flatter top is quite comfortable. Overall this bar is the best proportioned bar i have found.

    Excellent handlebar, unique reach option

I've scoured the internet, and cannot find another bar with a 70mm reach. This gives you a great option to go 10 or more mm shorter while riding on the hoods. Many "ergo" bars out there don't go down to 70mm reach. I have these on 2 of my bikes.

    Awesome handlebar!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'm a Zipp fan. But while I was searching for a handlebar for my new build, I looked at many other brands. But ended up with the Zipp. I love to egg-shaped portion on the bar, even though I don't ride in that position very much, it is very comfortable during long climbs. I also love the compact aspect of the bar, I'm super comfortable on the bike. Although its not a carbon handlebar, it is light!!!

Another amazing Zipp product, with an amazing service by backcountry, who has answered tons and tons of my questions!!

What is the correct weight of these...

What is the correct weight of these bars?

They can't possibly weigh 1630 grams. How can the actual weights be exactly the same for the 38cm and the 44cm bars? Seems like something is wrong here.

According to Zipp's Webpage the 42cm (C-C) bar weighs 260g
