It took three pairs of these shoes to finally find the right fit. Based on my experience, I recommend sizing-up, especially if you are in-between the available sizes. I have had great luck with other brands, especially Giro, but I wanted to try something new. This is my first pair of shoes with a BOA system and I'm pleased with the results. The build quality, comfort and style are spot-on as well. The price was right as well. I have about 300 miles on them at this point, 10k+ feet of climb... so far, so good. Long-winded, additional details: As for fit, I generally wear a 43.5 in a regular width for most cycling applications. Upon occasion 43.5 can be ever-so-slightly too big, so I tend to tighten the buckles/straps/laces close to the maximum or simply size down to a 43. The Shimano XC502 shoes barely slipped on to my foot in a 43. Given the impossibly snug fit of the 43, I foolishly ordered the 44 high volume shoe. The HV space was way too loose. Ultimately, sizing-up to the 44 worked. The best aspect of this purchase/return/purchase/return/purchase saga was working with Competitive Cyclist and their "gearheads." They made the entire process as easy as possible and I appreciate it.
