Why We Like The Shimano GE900 MTB Shoe

When we are bombing down double blacks or sending it at the jump line, no ordinary skate shoe is going to cut it. We trust the Shimano GE900 MTB shoe to give us enhanced comfort, performance, and protection on the bike. The Shimano GE900 is a premium clipless mountain bike shoe with a midfoot SPD placement for optimal bike control and an integrated neoprene sock liner to help keep dirt and debris out of our shoe. A reinforced toe cap protects against rock strikes, and a carbon fiber reinforced EVA midsole absorbs impacts, provides stiffness for power transfer, and combines with Shimano's TORBAL 2.0 torsional midsole for excellent edge flexibility when cornering. A BOA dial closure system makes for an effortless and secure closure, and a hook-and-loop strap keeps our heels from rising when walking. Shimano's Ultread GE rubber compound provides exceptional grip when connected to the pedals and has a dedicated hiking tread on the toe and heel for when we have to hike-a-bike.

So Far So Great.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
9.5

I'm a big fan of these new GE900 MTB shoes. Pretty simple design that checks all the boxes of what I was looking for in a shoe. The boa system combined with the top strap is cinches down tight for the climbs and is quick to loosen after the ride or when you need a relief from feet swelling a bit. The toe box is ample and well protected as I've already scrapped them up a bit from taking on a few unavoidable rocks. The ankle liner works well to keep the schmutz out. I did go with my actual size and they are slightly smaller than I thought which initially had me wearing thinner socks as thay broke in which is good for the heat but might not be my favorite if I was wearing with super thick socks or with wool and neoprene as some do for long winter adventures. Not for me. After a couple of rides, These are so much more comfortable than any other shoe I've used in the past. I will leave them on to mow the lawn after I get back from a ride without even noticing. I'm running them with crank bros mallet pedals which has been a winning combo for me.

Shimano shoes rock

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
45

Ok, so partly writing to say the Shimano's recommendation to size down is wrong. I have ME-7s in 46 and previous in 45.5 when they offered half sizes and I got a 45 and like every Shimano 45 I've tried the last 10 years it was too small. I'd say stick with your normal Shimano sizing. That said, like the M7s these felt perfect out of the box. They are a tad more flexible than the me7. They are not bulky or narrow and keep that sweet low stack height, keeping your foot close to the clear plate. They have enough volume to add an insert, if you need arch support. The engineering in Shimano shoes is just so consistent and awesome. I would have preferred laces but the GE9 doesn't have the annoying ankle protection the GE7 has. And the boa plus strap is actually well done and provided a secure fit. Whether these are the shoe for you is subjective... But they did a solid on this design. Follow the size chart and you should be fine.
