It's hard to believe RockShox felt compelled to beef-up the already stout Pike, considering its unbelievable success in the all-mountain arena. That being said, professional enduro racers demanded greater stiffness than what's available with the Pike, inspiring RockShox to create the Lyrik RCT3 DebonAir 160 Boost 27.5in Fork for long-travel applications. For 2018, the Lyrik is upgraded with a Charger 2 damper and DebonAir spring, both working to increase its small-bump sensitivity, traction, and mid-stroke support.
The Lyrik is the flagship enduro fork in RockShox's line, delivering unwavering support for riders demanding every last bit of stiffness and precise handling when they're pushing themselves and their forks to the absolute limit. To handle the rigors of enduro racing and aggressive all-mountain riding, RockShox beefed-up the Lyrik with thicker stanchion walls and a reinforced arch to deflect lateral/twisting forces from bucking you silly across rugged rock gardens and bigger hits.
Newly introduced to the 2018 line of Lyriks, the Charger 2 damper improves the fork's small-bump sensitivity, which equates to better traction when you're riding over successive rocks and large roots. This new damper gives riders a wider range of low-speed compression adjust, meaning it's all the more tunable to your exact preferences. It's also easier to turn the lever of the 3-position adjust, meaning it's now compatible with RockShox's OneLoc handlebar remote. Besides being popular in the Alps where long climbs are necessary, the OneLoc remote is useful for enduro racers seeking a handlebar lockout, since reaching down is a disadvantage.
Another new addition for the 2018 model year, the DebonAir spring increases the negative air spring volume of the fork, much like you'd find with RockShox's Deluxe and Super Deluxe shocks. This increased negative air spring volume makes the Lyrik all the more sensitive to small bumps, and also increases mid-stroke support as you push deeper through its travel.
Seeing the Lyrik has wider Boost spacing for increased wheel stiffness, it makes sense that RockShox designed it to clear tires up to 2.8-inches. This means you can use this fork with both wide volume trail and plus-sized tires without clearance issues. It's also compatible with RockShox Torque Caps, which are wider hub end caps that stiffen the interface between hub and fork dropout, which is helpful in long-travel applications. To gain the benefit of Torque Caps, you'll need to a compatible hub from SRAM, but there's also a few wheel companies now using this technology. Fear not if you don't use Torque Caps, as the Lyrik works with standard hubs, so long as they're Boost.
