Description

AmFib Cycling Bib Tight

Winter is here to quash motivations to train outside and dull those cyclocross skills you spent the entire fall building. Thankfully, there is a remedy to the later months of the calendar with the Pearl Izumi AmFib Cycling Bib tight. And as warming fleece has become a standard on winter cycling apparel, the AmFib elevates your motivations to seek out any opportunities to ride with a softshell fabric that resists moisture and protects against the wind as well.

PI Dry technology on the back of the legs combines with thermal fleece to shed water and protect against cold wheel-spray as you pedal out interval sessions in the wet and fine-tune muddy corning skills off-road.

The AmFib bibs are the warmest tights on offer from Pearl Izumi, and to further increase comfort on the coldest days, Pearl Izumi integrates its Elite Escape 1:1 chamois into the AmFib. The chamois uses variable density padding and is pre-shaped to enhance blood flow, and uses a floating top-sheet to reduce friction and pull moisture away from your skin.

Raw-edge bib straps provide next-to-skin comfort and provide support and a full range of motion in all riding positions. BioViz elements provide reflectivity in low-light riding situations, and the calf-zip ensures you can tuck the tights into over-shoes and booties for superior weather protection.

  • Pearl Izumi's warmest cycling tights boost your winter goals
  • Softshell wind-stopping power takes the edge of chilly air
  • Thermal material stretches, insulates, and breathes
  • Zip-less ankles improve comfort and fit
  • Reflective details help visibility under dim, winter skies

Outstanding

I ordered a large size and fits well. 5’9 1/2” 163-165 lbs or 73.95-74.84 kg. What I don’t like is sometimes the material gathers behind the knees with the pedal stroke and causes some discomfort. I just kneed it a little and is fine 90-95% of the time on my rides. They’re definitely thicker than other tights I own. Other than that small nuance, they are outstanding compared to what I was using for years in cold riding. I had layered before with 2, 3, and up to-on really cold days-4 layers! This put a lot of pressure on my abdomen in the riding position. I have none of that now with these bibs. I supplement the groin area with Gore wind briefs but only below 35*F and in actuality hasn’t been needed until below 30F. The bibs do a good job of protecting the front area. As you can imagine it can get painful with the wind there in the groin if your not protected. So I don’t chance it. I used the bibs and the underwear together down to 19*F the other day with 12 mph wind and legs were a tad cold but great after 5 miles of warm up; nothing on the groin. Was able to discover 20*F is my limit regardless if the sun is shining. The chamois is decent and has enough padding for me. I don’t even notice the straps when I’m riding. But they definitely have helped with the pressure on my abdomen. No abdominal pressure at all anymore with these bibs. I’ve gotten good at bathroom breaks too on the bike trails with the straps and jacket. If you’re worried about cold exposure and messing with straps, believe me, it takes no time at all to get a technique down so you can go when it’s 20-25*F and the wind is blowing out in the country. Very happy with these winter riding bibs. Wish I had changed to something like this years ago for cold riding. Warm. Comfortable except what I wrote above. Fits well. Tucks into winter boot without a lot of bulk. And they still impress me on rides.

These feel great and work in changing weather conditions. I've ridden from the high 30's up to the mid 50's and never felt either cold or hot. The chamois is as good as anything I've worn; these are the only ones that offer sufficient support at the tip of the butt bones. The only downsides (which are minimal) are lack of a zipper at the ankles which makes them a pain to get off due to their tight fit and lack of pockets but other than that they're terrific. My legs are pretty thin especially at the calves. Someone with bigger legs might have an issue with the fit.

The description says " the calf-zip ensures you can tuck the tights into over-shoes and booties..." but the Specs say "Zip-less ankles improve comfort and fit". Which is it? Thx.

These are absolutely great. They do run a tad tight so you might want to size up. I am 6-1, 170, size 30 jeans and move between medium and large bottoms in most brands. I have these in large and they fit great! They don't stretch much at all, so keep that in mind. Now, these are great in sub 45 degree weather, especially on windy New England days. Anything warmer and you'll just overheat.

First, I found the fit of these to be true to size. I am 5ft 11in, 210lb, 36in waist and an XL fit as I expected. Legs are snug but not uncomfortable and I didn't have any issues with fabric bunching. The chamois is pretty good for a bib tight in my experience. I wouldn't want to ride in these all day but I'm typically not getting out for more than a couple hours in the winter anyway. So far I've worn these down to freezing with a 10mph breeze and stayed warm. I imagine they would be good even another 10-15F degrees colder.

Bought this for my husband and he really loves it. The fit is nice and also the quality. It runs a little tiny bit small. I wouldn't recommend following the max size on the size chart. For example. the large says it will fit 34.5 - 37, I wouldn't recommend getting it if you're 36.5 or up just get the next size up.
