Mudstone Cycling Shoe
When it comes to fat-biking in harsh conditions, we think preparation is key to having a good time. That means layering up just right, and tossing on the burliest bike shoes you can find, like Louis Garneau's Mudstyle Cycling Shoe. With a synthetic leather outer, neoprene sealed cuff, and extra-insulated toe box with 200-grams of Thinsluate insulation, the Mudstone shoes are more than prepared for a winter apocalypse, keeping all water and wind out when you push through snowdrifts.
The shoes are built on a high-volume last that's designed to accommodate lofty winter socks without the need to size up, and the insole features a three layer construction with EVA support, reflective Heatfoil to keep the warmth inside, and a soft top fabric that sits comfortably under your sock. An oversized Boa system is used for fit adjustment, enabling you to tweak your fit even when you're decked out with thick winter gloves. To help secure your footing, the outsole is crafted with Garneau's TrailGrip system that excels in grip in wet and slick conditions, and features a cutout for a 2-bolt mountain bike cleat of your choice.
- Winter-ready shoes that are fully waterproof

Lousy zipper
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Didn't get to the "wear them" part. Couldn't even get the zipper up over my foot. Size was correct.

Not waterproof, zippers fail
On my very first ride in light drizzle my feet were soaked. I emailed Garneau and was told that in "extreme conditions" they can leak. The zipper was tight on my right foot and has now failed 2x. I had to use pliers simply to get the zipper down so I could get them off. I have numerous bike shoes and these are the absolute worst I have ever had. Total failure after only being used 5 or 6 times total.

Do NOT Purchase these boots!!
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Do not purchase. I did not purchase these from Backcountry and this review is not a reflection of Backcountry but of the Mudstone boot and Garneau in general. I do not want anyone to think these are a good boot. The mudstone winter boots stitching comes undone after 2 months if use and they are unwilling to work with you even in the dead if winter when your toes freeze. Garneau offered a warranty replacement (which was appreciated) however they required you to send them back first with a 2-3 week turnaround. Garneau would not even send a new pair first after offering to purchase the new boots with refund upon return of the defective pair and would not allow one to return the boots after the weather warmed up.

Poor design

Both zippers broke on the very first attempt at trying them on. They're are very difficult to get on and off. The fit is ok once they're on. However, if you had thick socks on these would be damn near impossible to get on and off.
