Description

Big sleeves to fill.

Considering the countless base miles we've ticked off in its predecessor, the Louis Garneau LT Enerblock Men's Jacket has some big sleeves to fill. The previous Enerblock Jackets have been key to turning what would be miserable winter base miles into enjoyable outings where, though our exposed noses might suffer, our cores remain relatively comfortable. The LT Enerblock doesn't disappoint, but it does expand on that legacy with an updated fabric composition.

As with its predecessors, the LT Enerblock's defining element is the material for which it's named. Like the Enerblock material it replaces, LT Enerblock creates a warm, dry microclimate with a windproof, waterproof membrane that keeps body heat in while keeping the elements at bay. LT Enerblock is also breathable, so it still lets water vapor out when perspiration rates rise with exertion levels, and the LT prefix suggests some increased stretch compared to the previous material. Reaching for a bottle in winter cycling gloves is arduous enough without an impeding fit, and LT Enerblock's inclusion of a bit more mechanical stretch shines most prominently in the shoulders when you're grabbing a bidon or draped over the bars.

Of course, anyone who's spent time in cold-weather kit knows that this kind of elemental resistance does come at the price of some breathability, so LG supplements the LT Enerblock with some strategically arranged panels of HeatMaxx, the Canadian brand's all-purpose thermal fabric. HeatMaxx's brushed inner face creates a bit of insulating loft, and it's lack of a membrane means it also breathes and manages excess heat more effectively than LT Enerblock. The HeatMaxx panels are placed at the elbow joints, underarms, and across the back, which ensure they perform their insulating, breathing duties without compromising the chest, shoulders', and forearms', weather-resistant properties.

The LT Enerblock Jacket is cut to accommodate layering, so its utility extends well into the low 30s or even high 20s, depending on your cold tolerance. The standard complement of three rear pockets is supplemented with a fourth, zippered pocket, and silicone hem grip and reflective details constitute finishing touches that help maintain coverage and visibility in the kind of chilly, low-light conditions where both are at a premium.

  • A cold-weather cycling jacket to keep you on the road through winter
  • LT Enerblock material is wind- and waterproof
  • HeatMaxx panels provide thermal regulation
  • Louis Garneau's Standard fit accommodates thermal layering
  • Silicone grip hem and elastic cuffs maintain coverage
  • Zippered security pocket and 3 rear pockets lined with reflective trim

Great jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I've been using this jacket for the past month and love it. My morning rides involve temperatures in the high-30s to high-40s. I wear a thin, moisture-wicking base layer underneath this jacket along with a warm pair of gloves and I'm completely comfortable for rides extending beyond 2 hours. The jacket is flexible and does not restrict my movements when I reach for an energy gel in the back pockets. I'm 6'2 and weigh 195-200 pounds and the XL fits nicely - snug in the right places. Sharp-looking jacket.

Can this jacket be packed into a jersey pocket?

Hey Tim,

While this lightweight softshell jacket isn't that bulky it is still well insulated and might be a tad difficult rolling up and stuffing it into a jersey pocket as that isn't necessarily what it is intended for. This is your perfect outer layer for cooler temperatures.

Feel free to reach out to me directly to discuss your options and find the perfect item for what you are looking for here Tim.

Bright!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

The yellow is very very bright. The fit is good. The pockets are slightly on the big side. Good for cold weather when caring extra layers.

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us Rico, feel free to reach out to me if you ever need anything here!

Nice jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I read reviews about sizing problems with LG jackets but this one is spot-on. I'm 6'0", 178 lbs (33 inch waist and ~41 inch chest) and the Large fits great - it is "fitted," but not so much to where I don't have good range of motion. It's kept me comfortable in temps down to about 30*F with only a sleeveless base layer and a long-sleeved thermal jersey. I really like the stretchable wrist cuffs - they are comfortable and keep the cold air out.

The bright yellow is visible and the rear pockets are easily accessible. The zippered chest pocket and rear pocket are nice features. I haven't worn it when the reflective accents would be needed but I assume they'll do their job.

The only thing missing from this jacket is a dual-direction zipper. It's not critical but there are times I'd like to unzip from the bottom to access my jersey pockets.
