Canada Air.

Louis Garneau didn’t pull a single punch with the Course Air Lite Road Shoe. This one has all the bells and whistles: a carbon fiber outsole with titanium inserts, the Boa closure system, Garneau’s patented air channel system, and a paper-thin 4.3mm stack height. That all sounds great, but here’s the icing — the shoe weighs just 222 grams (size 42) — making it Garneau’s lightest shoe ever.

The Course Air Lite uses the HM X-Lite carbon outsole with titanium inserts for an ultra-stiff platform and incredibly low weight. Not surprisingly, the new outsole features a lighter weight and a higher level of stiffness. The ultra-thin outsole provides a stack height of just 4.3mm. Accordingly, the distance from your foot to the pedal is shortened, resulting in a more efficient power transfer. Don’t think for a second, however, that Garneau stopped engineering at the outsole. The Course Air Lite features Garneau's HRS-400 technology. This design revolves around a nylon-injected reinforcement that keeps the heel from shifting. Additionally, Garneau included a one-way anti-slip spandex support inside of the heel cup. So, with the heel position secured, power loss from slippage is nearly eliminated on your up and down strokes.

Garneau equipped the shoes with a microfiber upper. And not only does its rigid composition add to the shoes' durability, comfort, and support, but when mated with the 2LS' mesh ventilation windows, it dramatically increases its breathability. And while this all great, the most substantial new feature for Garneau has to be the Air Lite’s Boa lP1 closure system. Advantages of this system, compared to the Carbon Pro Team's micro-ratchet closure, include a nearly limitless level of volume customization, a complete lack of pressure points, and around a two-thirds weight drop. On top of this, Boa uses aircraft-grade stainless steel that, according to Garneau, is stronger-per-gram than tank armor. So, the perfect fit is guaranteed, whether pre-ride or on-the-fly.

  • Racing shoes that pull no punches
  • Light, stiff carbon sole isn't (only) for charity rides
  • Titanium inserts shed grams wherever possible
  • HRS-400 technology secure heel and prevents slippage
  • Low stack height boosts efficiency by removing imepdiments
  • Microfiber upper with 2LS mesh ventilation windows
  • Boa wire dials are the low-bulk solution for dialing fit

Amazing shoes!

  • Fit: True to size

Couldn't be happier with these shoes and the sale price!

Feel like you've got nothing on at all, what an upgrade from my old Giant brand shoes.

The BOA system is so much more precise than velcro straps and ratcheting straps.

Make sure you get the Yellow colour so those drivers can see you!

Awesome shoes

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 43

Extremely comfortable. Stiff enough to get the most out of your pedal. The BOA system is just great. I only use that system in any shoe I have. I have Sidi wire and 2 pair of this LG, and definitely the LG are perfect and I do not have to invest as much as I did with my Sidi's.
Fully recommended

Great shoes

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 44.5

Love them and the price was right as I go them on sale. They are light and comfortable. I put them as a 4 because the heal cup could hold my heal more but that might just be the shape of my foot. Overall though I am very happy with them.

Grade shoes

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have 2 pairs of these. They are light, stiff, very comfortable. The fit my feet perfectly. I also have Mavic cycling shoes and although I cannot say anything bad about the Mavics (They're awesome) I REALLY LOVE my Garneau Course Air Lite. I wore them in the new England winter for about 3000 miles, I wore them in the floor the heat for over 4000 miles. Between my black in my white Garneau there is about 7000 miles combined. You won't go wrong. GET THEM!!!!

The title should say “Great Shoes”
Also later in the text it should say “I wore them in the FLORIDA heat for over...”

Best shoes period!

  • Fit: True to size

These are my 2nd pair and I still love them! Now I have Bright Yellow and the White! These are light, very stiff and comfortable! Best shoes so far! Purchased 43.5, normally wear size 10 on regular running shoes.

The Perfect Road Shoe

  • Fit: True to size

One year later and can honestly say I found the right shoe for me. 6000 miles and 20 road races and this shoe does it all. Snug fit is perfect for me at size 42.5 (men 9 USA). Super comfy yet stiff and responsive. Love the boa system, way better than s-works. A++ Buy em!

Fantastic shoe

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

After putting over 1000 miles on these bad boys in 100+ F degree days and rainy 35 F days, I have almost no criticisms to speak of. Fit and comfort of these shoes went above my expectation. I wear a US 10 with an average width foot and have the perfect amount of room for my entire foot and toes with a size 44. The BOA closure system wraps seemlessly around without any pinching or pain that I have experienced in a laced shoe. One of my favorite features is the air vents underneath of the shoe. With a thin cycling sock on a hot and humid day, I am pleasantly surprised to feel airflow on the top of your feet and even from under the shoe's sole - pretty neat!

I have put multiple centuries on the shoe and haven't felt any weird pains. I found myself not having to muscle down the closures because of the anti-slip material inside the heel cup. This makes for a more comfortable ride without sacrificing foot movement in the shoe. The carbon outsole with titanium inserts feels extremely robust and stiff when hammering down - great perfect power transfer! From the dedicated road racer to the recreational weekend warrior, I would recommend the shoe. The combination of comfort, stiffness, and low weight makes this a great for many types of riders. I currently have the bright yellow color and have been complimented on their high visibility.

I tend to be a little rough and careless with my gear at times, so I'm not surprised my shoes have started to show small signs of deterioration. The plastic on the bottom of the toes has began to peel very slightly and the bright yellow upper has a few small scuffs near the sole. But, they remain a great looking shoe and function every bit as well as the first ride. If you are looking for a very high quality shoe to use for the next few years, they are definitely worth the money! Overall, they are extremely comfortable for a high performing and lightweight shoe.

You say you wear a size 10 (US) shoe. What size did you get of this shoe, 44?

Very comfortable, but narrow toe box

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 45.5

I've been wearing a size 45 in Specialized Pro road shoes that I've been using for the past 8 years. When it finally came time to replace these shoes I decided to try a different branch. These Garneau's came very well recommended and have overall great reviews. I did the foot measurement as recommended on the Garneau web site and ordered a 45. These were too small so I returned them for a 45.5 which were also just too small. I only wore them on the carpet but the toe box area just didn't work for my foot. Everything else felt great and I was bummed that these just won't work for me.

Hi Jay,
Thank you for your community feedback. This is very helpful for all our customers and I appreciate how you referenced your Specialized shoes for sizing comparison.
I am happy to explore other options that may work better for you and will follow up with you via email.

Fantastic road shoes

These shoes rock. Light. Stiff. Comfortable. What more do you want? How about micro adjusting boa? A seriously locked in heel cup? Great cleat adjustability? And the Ergoair insole system really works. I live in the desert and right now some mornings are cold and some are heating up. I can switch out the color coded insoles and can feel the difference in how warm or cool my feet are. These shoes replaced a pair of LG Course 2LS shoes that had 4000+ miles on them and were still in solid shape, so I have good expectations that the Air Lite's will also last. I agree that they do scuff rather easily. Small aesthetic price to pay that doesn't impact performance. In short, fantastic road shoes!

True to size

  • Size Bought: 42.5

Replaced my Sidi's due to poor toe box fit (to narrow), though quality of Sidi's is outstanding. I went with these Course Lite based on industry reviews. They are very light, comfortable, stiff and after several hundred miles, I truly enjoy them. One caveat, the upper material will scuff easier than my Sidi's (different upper material, black leather vs. high vis yellow), but not a problem, just need to pay closer attention to clean when scuff marks appear. Love the BOA system.

Light, comfortable, easy-to-adjust, breathable, yaddda, yadda, yaddda.
Oh, and one of the very few shoes that has some much cleat placement adjustability - as someone who likes his cleats pretty far back, I can finally do it without resorting to a dremel and hours of frustration.

The Perfect Shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love these shoes. I got these to replace the LS-100's I have been using for just over 2years. These have everything that I wished the ls-100 had. The double BOA has the perfect amount of pull to truly snug up the shoe and hold the foot. They are extremely comfortable and stiff. You can really throw down some power with these shoes and they feel great for a long day in the saddle.

Oh yes

Let's face it, one doesn't typically think "Garneau" when thinking of top cycling shoe companies. That's why these were such a surprise.

After using these over this past year, I think the Course Air Lite's are one of the BEST summer road shoes out there.

    1. The -dual- BOA closure system rocks! This is by far the best closure system I have ever used.
    2. Extremely light! Only ~225g each.
    3. Aerodynamic and look great!
    4. The ventilation system in the footbed really works. On a descent you can feel the cool air running through the bottom of the shoes. Awesome.
    5. Super stiff carbon-fiber outsole.
    6. Heal cup features special uni-directional 'griping' fabric. Your heal is locked in.
    7. Excellent fit for most of the target riders.

These are GREAT light-weight Summer training/racing shoes.

Cons: The QC is 9 out of 10. A little glue smudges here and there. But no big deal.

    Cold weather notes:
    1. Use toe covers (or winter booties in really cold weather) and the *supplied* cold-weather insoles.

    2. If you ride in the rain (or even just wet roads after a lot of rain)... wear another pair of shoes! Surely these are not your first or only cycling shoes. These are just too nice to ruin by riding on wet roads.

Fit: Snug heel and a medium-wide toe box. Not narrow like Sidi, thankfully. But not as wide as Shimano. These are race/training shoes designed to fit athletic riders. If you have wide feet: upsize 1/2 size.

Sizing: I wear a size 45.0 in Shimano. Here, in these Garneau Course Air Light's, the 45.5 definitely fit my slightly wide foot best. Don't buy too small a size.

    Very Comfortable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 44.5

I purchased a 44.5, the same size I wear in Sidi and Mavic and the fit is perfect. There is a bit more room in the forefoot than Sidi but about the same as Mavic. The way the BOA closures are located provide a very even foot pressure with no hot spots. These shoes are light but seem to be well made. The hot and cold weather footbeds are a meaningful plus.

    Solid, detailed, comprehensive, worth reading.

    Light, stiff and comfortable

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I purchased this shoe in red several weeks ago and have put a decent amount of mileage on them in varying conditions. I have also used both insoles (hot and cold). I have found them to be very light, stiff and comfortable on my feet. I would never buy another shoe without the BOA system, which works great on the fly. Very easy to reach down and micro-adjust as I am riding. When I put max power down out of the saddle, I feel no slippage in the shoe or heel as I am pulling up with full force. The toe box is adequate, but not huge. I wear a US 10.5 and went with the 44.5 and found that this fits just about perfect. I think the 45 would have been just too big. I love the red...stands out without looking over the top. Overall, a great shoe.

Just a follow up a year later....I have put almost 13,000 miles on these shoes and they are going strong. I take care of them by wearing shoe covers in wet weather and if they get wet, I just pull the insoles out and let them air dry. Hard to beat this shoe.

    It's the little things

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

In the last year of racing I've used 5 FIVE different shoes and each one had it's ups and downs. Shimano, Sidi, 2 Giro models and finally this pair. No shoe had any particular issues, but i wasn't totally happy in any of them until this model. The Louis Garneau shoes start with a pretty fantastically stiff sole. EXTREMELY well ventilated and BONUS they come with swappable insoles for ventilation or warmth. And if you ride in cold weather like I do, I like the idea of not putting tin foil under insoles for warmth. The upper is a very durable polymer that also stretches a bit and very comfy once fitted. I've used boa systems before and was kinda upset with the quality of their ratchet system. They tend to break and the lack of dual rotation was a buzz kill. These buckles are awesome as they allow for both tightening and loosening AND BONUS a total unlock feature for quick take off. It's super nice cause you can adjust them through shoe covers during rainy races (like last weekend). The cleat adjustment is pretty awesome as well. allowing for a pretty infinite range of cleat adjustment. Also the walking pads (lack of a better term) are replaceable, which is great! All in all i'm very happy with these shoes, they're stupid light and they are very very stiff. Louis Garneau did solid work focusing on the little details and it paid off big.

Every one of your reviews is a 4 or 5 star rating. Have you never encountered a product that was moderately inferior? I don't know whether or not to believe you or consider you the outlier in the statistical population?

I think Robert reviews/recommends the better products that he comes across. Leaving little/nothing said about mediocre products. This is understandable. Btw, I find his reviews helpful, detailed, and informative.

Update: The LG Course Air Lite just received a top rating in Cycling Magazine's (UK) Feb '16 review of high-end road shoes. RS isn't the only one who thinks these are worth checking out.
