GiroXen Glove - Men's
Item # GIR00C8
Take deep breaths.
When you're getting ready for a full day on the trails, hands are often the last thing to think about. But even though they aren't providing the power for your ride, they're how you control shifting, braking, and steering — not to mention, they're the first part of your body to take a hit when you clip a low-hanging tree branch. Giro's Xen Gloves take hand protection to the next level, with plenty of DH-ready padding and XC-caliber breathability.
The gloves' upper is covered by Giro's sonic-welded armor, which is accented by breathable mesh to keep your hands protected and cool. At the heel of your palm, Poron XRD padding is soft until impact, at which point it stiffens to keep your palms from getting shredded when you go over the bars. Flex zones at the knuckles and silicone print at the fingertips keep your digits dexterous and your braking reliable, respectively, and the three-piece Super Fit Clarino palm is hooked up with 2mm Technogel padding to reduce vibrations without making it feel like you're gripping your bars while wearing mittens.
- Protective gloves for rowdy days on the dirt
- Sonic-welded armor takes the sting out of branch hits
- Breathable mesh offers much-needed ventilation
- Poron XRD padding at heel of palm hardens on impact
- Knuckle flex zones keep dexterity a priority
- 2mm Technogel padding reduces harsh vibrations
- Silicone print at fingertips for touch-screen compatibility

Would be the perfect glove except...
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I've owned three pairs of these, and have always found that they were the perfect combination of well placed padding, good bar feel, and protection. Unfortunately, after the last pair blew out a seam in the palm within a month (without any crashes), I think it's time to move on.

Simple but Functional
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Fit:
- True to size
These gloves are pretty basic but are a good choice if you don't want to break the bank on gloves. I've worn them on about 10 rides so far and haven't had any velcro or stitching problems as others have mentioned. Gloves take a beating, so I'm sure they will fall apart eventually, but for my budget they were just what I needed for this summer.

Great MTB Glove

Bought these gloves as a gift. Here's what they had to say - "Gloves fit true to size, excellent grip, and made with quality materials. The padding is excellent for mountain biking. Would not recommend for cyclocross. Ventilation is great."

Poor Quality
- Familiarity:
- I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

- Medium
I purchased these as a gift and they arrived with a hole in the seam on one of the fingers. I would have returned them but we needed them for a ride that day. Overall the quality seams seems low and even the velcro was weak right out of the box. Shop around for a better glove with better reviews.

These gloves are simple and only what you need, nothing over the top. They have just a bit of padding on the lower, outside part of the palm. I prefer something with a lot of padding, and this glove has plenty for me. They have some pretty great ventilation. I've been wearing them on some pretty hot days and honestly have not noticed them to be any hotter than my short finger gloves. They felt pretty snug when I first tried them on, but they have stretched out and are super comfortable now. I think for the price-point they are a pretty good value.

Simple and pretty standard
Nothing too crazy about these gloves. They are simple and affordable and you get what you pay for. I have been wearing these a lot and don't have any major complaints but I also wouldn't say I have a lot to rave about.

These work great for me as a basic every day glove. I am sure there are better gloves out there, but these do the trick for me. No frills, not much padding, basic.

Not my favorite, won't buy again.
This glove is not top shelf. The Velcro band stopped working right away. The rubber bumper bits (which no longer seem to be a design feature) have come off for the most part. I won't be buying these again.

Garbage

These gloves initially met my expectations. On first fit they were comfortable and were breathable. However as time went on these gloves rapidly deteriorated from simple, everyday use which did not include big wipeouts. I purchased these in August 2015 (not from Backcountry mind you) and by November the velcro closure stopped sticking and would flap around during rides. This was not a dealbreaker, but it was disappointing. At the same time the gloves were wearing holes along the finger joints, logos were peeling off the back of the glove, and the material enabling touch screen operation was beginning to peel. Individually, none of these are dealbreakers, but the sum of these issues is lots of disappointment and the realization that these gloves are made cheap. Today is the final straw. The nose-wipe cloth tore next to the seam joining the palm. If I rode harder and/or hard I would expect this kind of breakdown from a glove. These gloves cannot stand 3 months or riding without experiencing severe wear-and-tear. This product is absolute garbage. Spend your money elsewhere.

Go to glove

Working for Competitive, I have many pairs of gloves. The Xen is my go to, for almost all of the riding I do. They are extremely comfortable, have the nice gripper on the fingers for brake levers, and last a long time. I have even crashed right on my hands with these gloves and only had a small tear. Great stuff!

Punchline: I'm done w/ Giro gloves 'till they learn to make a MTB glove that lasts more than a couple weeks. When you try Giro gloves on in the shop, it is evident that they are good at making form-fitting, comfortable, well-ventilated gloves. What you will not learn 'till you buy them, unfortunately, is that they are lousy at quality control & selecting materials that can withstand day-to-day on the dirt. I have an older pair of Giro Xens that used a laughably-thin mesh between fingers that tore when you looked at it crosswise. I liked the fit, so I kept on taping over the tears w/ tenacious tape and rode 'em 'till the velcro fell off (30 pieces of tape later.) Against my better judgement, I decided to try this latest version of the Xen because my other gloves lacked any back-of-hand protection. After just 2 rides, I already had my first seam fail between the perforated faux-leather and the terry portion that wraps the back of the thumb. I decided to just put a big piece of Tenacious Tape over the entire inside-half of the palm on both gloves both to repair this damage, and because the paper-thin single layer of this pleather material would have offered next to zero protection in a crash anyway. Strange that Giro can make such great helmets, but such lousy gloves

You're an employee and "would have returned them"? Failing even *after* a single ride is completely unacceptable. Garbage like this should be returned on principle!
