Why We Like The Giordana FR-C Pro 5cm Shorter Short
Whether for fit or for tan lines' consistency, the FR-C Pro 5cm Shorter Short offers us a different inseam length with a bit less coverage than the standard short. Just as its name suggests, the legs are 5cm, or just around 2 inches in common parlance, shorter than the standard FR-C short. Otherwise, you'll enjoy the same high-tech materials and craftsmanship as the standard FR-C.
The shorts are constructed from HC-50 compressive Lycra on the front and side panels, which surpasses the HC-44 with an increased thread count from 44 to 50 threads per centimeter squared which helps in the compression department. Benefits include increased blood flow and a reduction in fatigue from road vibrations with increased muscle support. Zaffiro 2.0, a textured anti-abrasion lyrca is utilized on the inner leg and seat panel as it increases resistance from pedaling friction.
With materials up to date, it would be a shame to not modernize the leg cuffs. Well, Giordana does and the 190 E bands expand a soft, a non-restrictive compressive grip across the 7.5-centimeter-wide cuffs. A silicone gripper is used to ensure those higher tan lines, if you choose, are razor sharp.
Ametista Core Contour fabric wraps the waist and core incorporating carbon threads for its anti-odor properties and reduction of electro-static interference. Light rolled elastic at the front and rear of the waist hem with soft silicone gripper elastic keep these shorts so securely in place, without feeling like you are getting cut in half, that you might never wear bibs again.
The Cirro OmniForm chamois is one of our favorites and it incorporates aloe vera into the face fabric for natural anti-odor properties with a pleasant cooling feeling. Underneath the top layer is a 4mm-thick pad of waffled-texture expanding memory foam that rushes moisture externally speeding up evaporation and limiting bacteria-prone dampness. The final layer of the chamois is a thick section of hand-sewn open cell padding with recessed channels for pressure relief.

Bulky Chamois for smaller men
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
- Size Bought:
- Small
- Height:
- 5' 7"
- Weight:
- 124
As the stylistic trend these days is to make the inseam longer than ever, these are shorter inseam like they used to be, say, 5 or more years ago. This is important for those of us who are shorter in height. However, the chamois seems bulky between my legs. It feels like the chamois is trying to force my legs apart, and I must compress the material to stand naturally. My perception is that the chamois generally gets thicker as the shorts goes up toward the "pro" level, and this is no exception. This is OK for the sit-bones, but not further forward. Pearl Izumi's "Elite" level chamois is less bulky in this region and I recently tried Castelli Endurance 3 and it is even less bulky (but it's inseam was unacceptably long). Seems like more companies should size the chamois along with the garment size, but very few do this today.

Great for indoor biking
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- L
- Height:
- 5' 11"
- Weight:
- 180
I bought these specifically to ride indoors, no need for more leg coverage in a basement. The first ride the pad seemed a touch bulkier than the Castelli's I normally wear, but after a couple washes felt better. On the whole a really good pair of shorts for my indoor rides, appreciate not as much material there to hold the sweat in.

Good fit for short guys
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I?m kind of a short guy (5?6?) and thanks to the pandemic, I?ve been riding a bit more than usual lately (mostly extended sessions on Zwift). Thanks to all my extra indoor time and lack of anything better to worry myself about, I recently noticed how much I hate shorts that hit me at just the wrong spot behind the knee. While in this state of mind, I noticed these on Backcountry/Competitive Cyclist. I already have a way too large collection of Pearl Izumi, Castelli, and Louis Garneau shorts but thought I?d give these a try. These shorts hit me just above the knee and feel great. The pad is a little thick but not so much that it bugs me. All of this translates to my new favorite shorts. If you?re a short person who hates the fit of longer (standard length) shorts, you might find these the perfect length. I?m happy to say I just bought my third pair with hopes of adding another couple of pairs in the future (but not all at once because they?re kind of pricey!). Background on me: I?ve been riding road bikes for ~35 years. Previously strictly road miles, crits, and centuries with friends. Now (thanks to work and kids), I ride mostly indoors using a Wahoo Kickr on Zwift either pre-dawn or post-kid bedtimes. I?m also a gear junky who values quality over quantity when buying new gear.

Chamois seems bulky for size small
- Familiarity:

I have not ridden in these shorts, so this review is limited to size/fit only: The size small is a little tight compared to others, so if you are on the edge of the size chart, order a size up. I'll still call it "true to size" but be aware. The chamois on these seem substantial ( as expected) at the "sit bones" but are very bulky between the legs. Just standing up the chamois is compressing and trying to spread my legs apart. It is almost like they are using the size Large chamois in a size small garment. At this price point, I'm particular and don't want this much bulkiness. I have tried Castelli Endurance and PEARL iZUMi Escape that are similar at the sit bones but are not so bulky further forward between the legs.
