Why We Like Garmin The Neo 2T Smart

Positioned as the top-tier model in the Garmin line, the Tacx Neo 2T Smart Trainer is among our top picks for its wide range of axle compatibility and quiet design. It has ANT+ Cycling Dynamics in the firmware, allowing us to use the pedal stroke analysis feature with third party software such as Garmin Edge computers, making it easier than ever to monitor output. The latest design makes the trainer more responsive to speed and incline changes, with dynamic inertia quickly compensating for weight, speed, and incline changes to ensure the most realistic ride feel possible.

A few more relevant details help distinguish the Neo 2T from other trainers. Its max power is 2,200 watts, it measures watts to a claimed 1% accuracy, and it simulates inclines up to 25%. Please note that some disc brake frames may have clearance issues on the Neo 2T Smart. A spacer is available directly through Garmin, if needed.

Awesome Smart Trainer

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:

Weight:

I've put off getting a trainer, but finally decided to cave in and got this Neo 2T. I was able to get it for significantly less due to the New 3 being launched and haven't been disappointed. Set up was quick and easy and I was up and running in no time with the free trial of Garmin's Tacx Training app. I have ended up using Zwift and it works really well on that platform as well. I find that the noise from the trainer is minimal and with the fans going, I barely even hear the noise from the cassette/pedaling. I was fortunate to get it during a Garmin promo and got the motion plates for free. My only complaint so far is that during grades at 10% or greater or when I want to stand up for extra power, it just doesn't feel natural. I wish Garmin had something like the Kickr Climb to go along with this to eliminate that issue.

Great Upgrade and Quiet!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Height:

I can't believe how quite this trainer is, if i had know how much of a difference the noise makes I would have done this upgrade a while ago. It was a bit unnerving the first time I used this on a cobble road in Zwift, I thought the trainer was broken, and then I remembered that it has feedback based on the road surface. very smooth power engagement and holds lower wattage very well.

Best trainer out there!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I bought this to replace my old Cycle Ops Hammer (now sold as the Saris H3). This is a much better trainer than anything I've ever used. 1) It is QUIET! The loudest noise you can hear is the chain on your bike. The unit itself is virtually silent. 2) By design there is a little bit of side to side flex, which gives it a more natural feel when you're sprinting out of the saddle. Other trainers have a much more locked-in feel. 3) The electronic simulated flywheel is vastly superior to anything else out there. A trainer with a conventional flywheel (which is pretty much all of them except the Neo) will start slowing down whenever you coast for even a second or two. The Neo's software and built-in motor provides the most realistic feeling of coasting over any other trainer I've tried. This eliminates the feeling that you must pedal literally all the time to keep the flywheel spinning, and avoids the ramp-up to get it spinning again any time you briefly coast. All in all this feature gives the Neo the most realistic road feel of any trainer on the market.

Nice trainer but not perfect

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I bought this during the COVID shut down to keep myself from going crazy during the winter months. It did the job! Very realistic feel, smooth, relatively quiet, stable, and looks good. Also neat that you can use it without power if needed. My only issue is they didn't put a handle on the thing. So, if you need to pick up the trainer and your bike to move out of the way, it's a process or takes two people. Also, its one of the higher priced trainers out there (its all they had at the time when I bought it), so there might be better deals out there if you only use this occasionally.

Winter lifesaver

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I live in the wet PNW and i personally dont enjoy riding in the rain or having my eyes water profusely from the cold wind in the winter months. I wanted a trainer so i can still get exercise and fee like im getting a good workout. I put on my vintage Vitus 979 with all its original dura-ace components. There was some futzing to get this onto the trainer with all my older components and my shifting isnt very smooth while on the trainer. But its so nice to have the elevation gains and feel like im really getting a good workout. Sure, its not the same as actually riding my bike but i am sweating and feel good after. It connects to my phone quickly and i use Zwift/Strava. Not a huge fan of the real road feel but dont honestly know how to turn off that feature, but i also dont care enough to figure out how. so its a small annoyance i could avoid by figuring out how to turn it off, but meh. i bought it a few months ago and have about 275 miles already. Its a great way to stay in shape. Its heavy, so you need a good spot for it...cant really move it around your house. I have it set up in the office in front of a window and a fan blowing directly on me! Get a floor mat cause you WILL sweat!

Fantastic

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I couldn't be more pleased with this trainer, including the simplicity of installation and the easy Zwift integration. It's an upgrade from a traditional trainer used in conjunction with an older power meter. I'm very happy with the purchase. Thank you backcountry for your great write up on the product.

Great kit!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This is a great bit of kit, I have been using it for a couple of weeks so far and have been impressed. It was easy to set up and using it with Zwift I have looked forward to my indoor training sessions. If you haven?t bought one yet, you should!
