Why We Like The 34 Float SC 29 FIT4 Remote Adjust Factory Boost Fork

Aggressive cross-country riders looking for a lightweight, hard-charging fork need not look beyond the FOX 34 Float Step-Cast. Sporting similar design and weight-saving tricks first employed on the 32 Step-Cast Fork a few seasons ago, the 34 is designed to excel on more technical cross-country courses and provides riders seeking the lightest trail-worthy fork available. And while most forks become a bit spindly or lose tire clearance which such weight savings, amazingly the Step-Cast 34 isn't a slave to flex, tracking with authority on demanding trails and clears up to 2.6-inch rubber. Marathon and 24-hour cross-country racers will also appreciate its 2-position handlebar remote that allows for instant efficiency on smoother trails, gravel climbs, and tarmac sections.

  • FOX's lightweight XC fork that doesn't sacrifice stiffness
  • Designed for marathon racers and technical trails alike
  • Packs 120mm of travel and uses a Boost, Kabolt 110mm axle
  • Stepped, hollow lowers significantly reduce its weight
  • Stiffness is similar to that of 140mm 34 Float Fork
  • Float air spring with EVOL negative spring boosts small-bump compliance
  • Fit4 damper with 2-position remote offers handlebar on-the-fly lockout
  • 29in version of 34 Step-Cast clears 2.6in tires

Woah. This is *the* fork to get.

I've put it through the wringer
True to size

I ride a Specialized S-Works Epic HT and my wife rides a Specialized Epic FS. We both ride the SC 34, mine has the lockout on top of the fork and my wife rides the remote lockout version. Having now ridden both versions here's my .02$ that the remote lockout is absolutely the way to go. The remote lockout included with the fork is silky smooth and fits really well in the cockpit mounted above on top of the right side of the bar to keep a paddle style dropper on the left. The levers on the remote both have short smooth throws and are easy to actuate even while the fork is under load. Something I noticed with a manual lockout is that if I was unlocking the fork while putting pressure on the stanchions during a climb the lockout would feel 'stuck' and be hard to open up. Which isn't great when you have a second with a hand off the bars before descending. With this remote version there's no 'stuck' unlock feeling. Also, the remote lockout version is a 2-step either locked out or full open vs. the manual which has a 3 position lever. The middle position on the manual lockout is hard to find while riding because the clicks aren't perceptible through gloves, especially on trail making this middle setting functionally useless. The remote was also really easy to install using the FOX website videos, it took maybe 10 minutes with most of that faffing around with removing grips / other cockpit bits. Riding wise... When you start descending this fork is straight up cheating. I'm a heavier rider (205) and feel absolutely no flex and get beautiful small bump compliance after playing with tokens. Could not recommend this fork more highly - it makes you faster and makes riding more fun which is the goal right? It's also definitely saved me from going over the bars on steep / techie blacks in Sedona where a hardtail shouldn't belong but the SC 34 makes even the scary stuff manageable on a HT bike.
