Roses and red.

In the mid-summer uproar surrounding a certain yellow jersey, the two other grand tours are seemingly left in the shadows. Fi'zi:k is bringing them back to the forefront with flashes of Italian pink and Spanish red in its Antares R3 Race Edition Saddle with K:ium Rails.

The Antares' flat profile bows into a slightly rounded transverse section that lets you cycle through your muscle groups by adjusting your position in the saddle, something we especially dig during long, grind-it-out climbs. Sit back to engage your glutes and slide forward on the nose to make your quads do the work.

The shell is made of composite glass co-injected nylon and incorporates Fizik's WingFlex technology for sit-bone support that still flexes at the edges to accommodate the pedaling motion. The rails are made from K:ium, an alloy that enjoys an 8% weight reduction compared to titanium without sacrificing durability and corrosion resistance. It's not as light as carbon, but K:ium does also reduce the risk of hearing that ominous crack while tightening a saddle clamp onto the rails.

The Antares falls into the Chameleon category within Fi'zi:k's Spine Concept guidelines, an approach to finding the right saddle choice that recognizes differences in spine flexibility among cyclists. With its wider stance and flattened shape, the Antares is the top recommendation among the Fi'zi:k saddle range for cyclists with spine flexibility that falls in the middle of the rigid to flexible range because it encourages a moderate hip tilt that allows for a more accommodating back angle when you're stretched out on the bars.

  • The Antares pays tribute to the Italian and Spanish grand tours
  • K:ium rails are light and durable
  • Wing Flex shell is engineered to accommodate pedaling motion
  • Chameleon Concept category for riders with more neutral spines

great saddle but mine cracked

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got a warranty replacement for this saddle, as my original split across the winglflex portion after about 6000 miles of use in one year. Otherwise, the saddle is great and was treated well by CC in terms of warranty and return of the original. I also have a bike with an Arione saddle and am not sure which I like better. More pressure on the sit bones for the Antares and more on soft tissue for the Arione, though I like both better than any other saddles I've tried (Selle, Specialized, etc.)

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I picked this up in desperation after having issues with my existing saddle just a few days before the Vermont Overland gravel race. I took a flyer after reading some reviews and went out for 50 miles of hurt (not from the saddle) with just a few test miles on the Antares. What can I say, it was perfect, and by perfect I mean I never once thought about my saddle the entire day. No pain, no problems. I'm very psyched with my purchase.

Very solid choice

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Replaced an Arione R7 that came stock on one of my bikes - 20 and 30 miles into a ride I'd find myself shimmying around on the saddle trying to find the
