Winter Long-Sleeve Skin Layer
When the riding plans and the outside weather can’t agree that a long-sleeve winter jersey will be sufficient, the Assos Winter Long-Sleeve Skin Layer may be the ideal. The insulating layer easily fits under a heavier winter jacket to manage more than a few hours of base mile training. Next-to-skin comfort is improved with the Circular Seamless design, which removes the seams, reduces irritation, and is at least in part responsible for the 13% lighter weight, compared to the previous Winter Skinfoil line. Polyester fabrics and yarn are woven together to wick away sweat as your intensity increases. And to send textile composition into the next generation, carbon fiber blends in to add durability. Who says you can’t have your carbon fiber and wear it too?
- Body-heat regulating layer for winter training-miles
- Synthetic blend with a touch of carbon fiber for strength
- Breathable performance and cold weather insulation
- Significantly lighter than previous Winter Skinfoil design
- Tubular knit keeps it cozy to reduce stitch irritation

I have used the base layer for Mountain Biking. Wore the Winter base layer with a short sleeve shirt over it down to 37 degrees and was warm. The fabric is very soft and feels great. It also feels high quality. The higher collar feels nice because the wind doesn't get in your shirt. The stripe down the front is not so flattering unless you have a ripped six pack.

Next to the skin, this first layer performs well- insulating, wicking, and close fitting. I am wearing it under an Assos winter jacket and down to 35 deg. or so it is warm enough at a brisk pace of riding. Under 35 deg. and down to the 20's, I add another layer- a long sleeve jersey mid layer. This first layer is expensive, but as with all Assos garments, beautifully made and functional. I should say, I have Assos garments that are over 12 years old that are holding up like new with lots of use, and I still have my original Assos spandex shorts from the early 80's that I no longer wear, but could as they have held up as well. Assos is expensive by comparison, but no other cycling garments hold up as well so they are a worth while investment in performance and quality.
