Description

Blaze New Trails.

Whether you have bike envy for your friend's new ride or its time to take your old steed out to pasture, Yeti's SB5 Beti Carbon XT/SLX Complete Mountain Bike is one to consider if you are in the market for a new trail bike. The bike checks off all our boxes of features we seek on a modern mountain bike but for us, riding is believing. Mountain bikes are really good right now. Companies like Yeti continue to evolve bike technology and the results allow us to ride faster, safer, and with greater enjoyment. Yeti already had an incredible template in the SB5, a favorite of many a test rider and industry veterans, in which to craft the SB5 Beti. The Switch Infinity suspension works wonders when you need the travel but lets you motor along efficiently when you don't. It's amazing how well the SB5 excels in a variety of conditions. From rocky, high-speed chunder in the west to slimy, rooty, and rock strewn sinuous singletrack in the east to loamy jump lines in the pacific northwest, the Beti SB5 handles it all and does so with speed and grace.

The only difference you’ll notice between the Beti and its counterpart are a lighter shock tune and touch points (saddle, grips, and bar) better suited for smaller and lighter riders. Lighter than most trail frames, the just over six pound, carbon fiber SB5 Beti climbs with an eagerness of knowing that the real fun begins on the way down. Ensuring that the bike tracks true and responds well to steering inputs is a tapered head tube, and 148mm boost rear thru-axle. Yeti wisely specced a slightly narrower handlebar and added a women's specific saddle and grips that add comfort however they do not detract one iota from the bikes intended purpose and character. FOX did create a custom tune on the Performance DPS rear shock to accommodate for lighter riders making the suspension optimal the smaller riders this bike will cater.

In terms of suspension, Switch Infinity’s linear travel provides adequate anti-squat to keep pedaling over rough terrain, both standing and sitting, very efficient. Deeper in the travel, the Switch Infinity slider works in conjunction with the upper pivot changing the leverage ratio and wheel path so you can plow into square-edge hits without the rear wheel wanting to hang up. The bottomless feel seems like more than 5 inches yet the bike pedals very spritely and we would have zero hesitation jumping into an XC race on it.

FOX handles the suspension duties on both ends and if easy to setup and has proven to be very durable. Shimano's mix of SLX and XT blend durability, and value and honestly shifts and brakes as well as the top end parts did just a few short years ago. This bike is ready to rip. Just bring your sense of adventure and your desire to go fast.

  • An aggressive trail bike making mincemeat of difficult trails
  • 5in of travel of smooth Switch Infinity travel
  • Slack geometry pushes into all-mountain territory
  • Less weight and more efficiency with carbon construction
  • Paint and graphics designed with Yeti's sponsored women cyclists
  • Built-up with a workingwoman's build kit

Oh the places Beti will go

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The Yeti Beti has been true to its word, it is a great preforming all mountain bike. I am an avid rider and thus far she has preformed in various terrain. The build kit is a great value over other complete bike specs, although I do not like the large spacing on the XT cassette between the two largest gears. One other feature that I would like to upgrade is the tires to a more aggressive tread pattern that matches the bikes capabilities. Overall I'm very excited about this bike and can't wait to see where it takes me!
