Cross country gets aggressive.
Some of us want a purebred XC rocket that prizes climbing speed over everything else, while others want a bit of enduro heritage and descending acumen in the ride. For the latter, Yeti Cycles offers its 2017 ASR Turq X01 Eagle Complete Mountain Bike. Carrying Yeti's new Turq designation, this ASR's frame represents the company's most advanced construction and boasts durable strength where you need it and light weight throughout. Outfitted with SRAM's superlative one-by 12-speed X01 Eagle drivetrain for light, precise, and confident gear shifts, this ASR is ready to rocket off the line.
The biggest differences between the ASR and the SB4.5 are less travel, a steeper head tube, and a single pivot suspension rather than the heftier Switch Infinity. This suits it for the XC racer who wants to get to the top first and demonstrate bike handling skills by dissecting terrain that enduro sled bruisers would just plow through. If Yeti's Super Bike line is made of enduro chainsaws, then the ASR is the surgeon's scalpel.
That's not to say that the ASR gets timid when grueling climbs let onto jarring descents littered with boulders, loose shale, and twisty roots. This is where other cross-country bikes would be begging for mercy, yet the ASR shines across abusive terrain and white-knuckle descents. The ASR is built to pair with 27.5 or 29in wheels, depending on size, so the big (or bigger) hoops steamroll anything lying in their path, allowing you to ride over trail impediments with effortless composure.
Because it's distinctly Yeti at heart, the ASR proudly retains a gravity-friendly persona with a head tube angle of either 68 or 69 degrees, again depending on size. This more relaxed geometry won't chuck you over the bars like other cross-country bikes when the going gets steep, allowing you to confidently descend on only four inches of suspension where other riders are packing longer-travel bikes.
The ASR eschews Yeti's applauded Switch Infinity in favor of a significantly lighter single-pivot suspension. Not only does this design save a ton of weight for efficiency, but it also simplifies regular maintenance for riders and racers servicing their own bikes. The exceptionally stiff high-modulus, Turq carbon frame and swing arm complement the lightweight suspension platform, translating into uncompromising acceleration needed for tearing the competition apart.

Hi, Does the 2017 ASR cater for internal dropper post cabling?
Hey Jude, this bike does work with internal droppers.
you can either run the dropper along the out side of the down tube or if you don't run a front derailleur you can run it inside the down tube. To do this though you will have to drill out the removable cable ports.

I'll admit that I'm a lycra wearing roadie machine. But what I don't want to admit is I love riding mountain more. So what I've got to say about this high performing bike is not just from a roadie's perspective but from someone who gets to ride and test a lot of bad ass bikes..
The ASR: lightweight frame, smooth ride quality, super responsive, cross country race machine. This bike will annihilate any climb while easily destroying any descent. 2017 ASR is a lot longer, a lot slacker and the result is a modern cross-country race bike.It's a high-speed handler with tons of stability. Lightweight carbon seat stays, designed to flex a bit with the suspension.
I typically ride JEM Trail down in Hurricane, Utah every weekend and this bike rips. I think I rode with the shock wide open on most of the climbs and didn't sacrifice any traction. Nor did I feel like I was on a horse galloping.. it is a very compliant frame. It feels low and aggressive. I hate comparing this rig to an enduro bike because they serve different purposes.. but this can seriously handle some techy descents. The only things I'd really change about this build would be the grips, wheels, and saddle.
All and all this bike is solid and is for that person that enjoys the climb and wants to earn the descent.
