Carbon Road GXP L Gen 3 Power Meter Crank Arm

So you've got a perfectly good SRAM GXP road carbon crankset and you've been dabbling with the idea of upping your game and training with power. Stages has the solution to keep your drive-side arm and rings and add single-leg power in an affordable way to get the most out of your rides with its Carbon Road GXP L Gen 3 Power Meter Crank Arm. This made in-house carbon arm is extensively tested for accuracy and provides a cost-effective option for adding power to your existing SRAM GXP carbon crankset.

This isn't exactly the same crankarm as your current SRAM one, but the overall shape and carbon weave is very similar to the SRAM arm and of course, there's the Stages branding. On the inside of the arm is a power meter pod that’s bonded to the surface adding the ability to measure wattage so you can accurately gauge your efforts and train more effectively. Inside the IPX7 water-resistant pod are strain gauges and a Gen 3 updated accelerometer that measures rotational speed and the slight torsional bending of the arm 64 times per second to calculate power readings with a claimed +/- 1.5% accuracy that's perfectly in line with what we'd expect from any quality power meter. Stages uses Active Temperature Compensation that automatically adjusts for temperature swings during the ride so the measurements are more consistent. And to ensure your computer doesn't miss a watt, the Bluetooth LE and ANT+ radios have been beefed up to offer data transmission strength that’s 6 times stronger than before and the wireless firmware downloads via the Stages App lets you easily keep the power meter up to date.

Stages pulls off this amazing feat placing everything in a package that only adds 15 grams to the crank arm, which is next to nothing compared to the massive data tracking and training specificity that having a power meter affords. That's about the same as a swig out of your water bottle for a device that can certainly get you fitter than ever before.

Inconsistent. No customer service.

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Coming from a 4iiii with similar technology I was hoping this would provide similar results. Unfortunately it does not. Power readings are inconsistent from ride to ride (calibrated correctly before each ride) and stages still hasn’t responded to my ticket after 2 weeks and there is no way to call them.

Power without breaking the bank.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

As a single-sided power meter its not 100% the most accurate option on the market but it is incredibly user-friendly and easy to set up. I calibrate every ride and get very consistent readings and no connectivity issues when pairing to a 3rd party app like zwift. A great option for power on a winter bike or if you're after a nice power meter that wont break the bank!
