The SRAM XX1 GXP Direct Mount Boost 148 Crankset brings proven XX1 quality and durability to your shiny new BOOST axle-width frame. With the chainline bumped out three millimeters to function optimally with a 12 x 148mm rear axle, this crankset provides race-worthy power transfer and impeccable chain retention.
Carbon fiber arms interface with aluminum, direct-mount chainrings in a lightweight, spider-free design that doesn't require a finessing of parts in order to make an optimal single-ring setup. The X-SYNC chainring is designed for maximum chain control, with each tooth being CNC-machined in order to support the chain's inner- and outer-links. This machining process provides a variable thickness from tooth-to-tooth, so the chain and chainring essentially lock together as you pedal. However, the locking of the two doesn't inhibit pedal efficiency, and it eliminates the commonplace ailments associated with running a single-ring up front. Additionally, this system provides you with liberation from chain guides. SRAM even goes as far as to say that you have a better chance of dropping your chain with a front derailleur than you do with the XX1 crank and chain combo.
The direct-mount chainrings also afford the option of quickly subbing different sizes of rings for different shapes of terrain, giving the true all-mountain racer a bit of pre-race flexibility to adapt to a given course. SRAM's GXP design uses a 22mm gutter on the non-drive side to reduce friction and weight without sacrificing the drive side's power transfer.
