The shifting feel of SRAM XX is accurately described as supreme. The SRAM XX High Clamp Front Derailleur is a notable part of the whole package. It's specifically designed to work in harmony with the XX double crank.
The XX front derailleur is made to handle up to a 15-tooth differential between the big and little rings. It's cage is shorter and narrower than a triple-specific changer. This is great news for those who fear clearance between their rear suspension and their front derailleur.
The aluminum links that shape the swing of the derailleur cage are extremely wide for greater stiffness. This extra rigidity is part of what makes XX front shifting so quick and smooth. The derailleur cage is made from steel for maximum durability.
SRAM claims the XX front derailleur will work on just about any bike. That's because they have both high and low clamp versions in four sizes each and four different direct mount versions (and there are three different clamps for each chain ring configuration within the direct mount line). Here's a PDF chart so you can determine exactly what you need. In addition, both the high- and low-clamp versions use a thin, flexible band clamp that holds quite well at relatively low clamping pressure -- a safe recipe for carbon fiber frames.
The SRAM XX High Clamp Front Derailleur is available configured as either top or bottom pull and with 34.9mm and 38.2mm clamp diameters. The 34.9mm clamp size is adjustable with an included shim kit and will work on 31.8mm seat tubes.
