Because rainy days aren't just for winter.

If rainy days were only limited to winter, then we wouldn't ever have rainy days. We'd only have snowy days. Since rain can threaten a bicycle ride year-round, Sportful doesn't just make rain jackets for sub-50 degree Fahrenheit riding. The Fiandre Light No-Rain Jacket is constructed for rain in cool — but not cold — weather with the option to add under-layers for precipitation on colder days.

The jacket takes its name from one of its two fabrics, No-Rain Light. No-Rain Light is a Lycra-based fabric treated with Sportful's nanotech water repellent finish in order to make a water-resistant but stretchy and well-fitting fabric. This is used on the forearms and back to protect the areas most likely to be exposed to rain. It also grants more breathability than the more heavily insulated iterations of No-Rain material. It keeps all moisture, regardless of its origin, where you want it: off your skin. The other fabric is WindShield 3L, a stretchy, windproof material that Sportful employs for protection on the front, shoulders, and upper arms — the places where you'll be catching the most wind.

The fit is more relaxed and stretchy than Sportful's more insulated Fiandre No-Rain Jacket, which affords the opportunity to layer as conditions demand. Sportful makes judicious use of zippers and zipper-related tech by hiding the full-length front zipper under a wind flap and thoughtfully including zippered openings for access to jersey pockets that would otherwise languish under the jacket. Reflective strips on the lower back help keep you visible in low-light conditions.

The Sportful Fiandre Light No-Rain Jacket - Men's is available in seven sizes ranging from X-Small to XXX-Large in the colors Black/red, Cyan/black, and Yellow fluo/black.

I'm a little baffled why this top received Sportful's "Norain" designation. While I wasn't expecting a waterproof top or even a water resistant one, I was imagining it would repel water for at least a little bit. I really didn't. My first ride with the top was in the rain, and the top was soaked through by the time I got from my house to my garage to get my bike. Ok. That said, I actually like this top a great deal. The fit is excellent for me in a medium. It's well tailored for no flapping while still having room to layer underneath. I did a two hour ride in the rain and finished soaked BUT I was comfortable the entire ride. I'd say this is a very fine wind jacket that will be ok if you get caught in a brief shower, but if you want any sort of protection from sustained rain, maybe look elsewhere? Reading other reviews I'm actually wondering if my top just missed getting dipped in whatever water resistant coating Sportful uses. I might try some Nikwax to see if I can get any water repelling action with the top.

    Pretty nice rain "jer-ket"

I've owned my share of plastic sauna bags that are great at keeping you from getting wet on the outside but make you dripping wet on the inside. Like many modern jackets, this one feels and wears more like a jersey than a jacket which is great by me. It's soft, stretchy, and close fitting as advertised, and the water-repellant finish is impressive. It's easy to wear a base layer or a thin summer jersey underneath and be very comfortable in 50-70F degrees depending on your tolerance for cold.

While it does a great job at repelling water, it would have been nice if the back were a little longer. A full drop tail might be overkill for this jacket, but maybe another inch for when you're down in the drops. That said, I do have a long torso so your mileage may vary. It should be pointed out that the seams are not taped and after two hours in varying levels of rain I began to notice just a touch of water coming in at seams that were stretched, but by and large I remained dry. The jacket seems to be breathable...definitely more than the aforementioned oven bag...but hard rides in the rain can still overwhelm it. It doesn't pack down as small as some of Sportful's other jackets, but it will still pack down and fit in a pocket if you're wearing a fitted or semi-fitted jersey. Club fit shouldn't be a problem. Don't bother with a race jersey. I can't speak to durability yet. I expect the water repellant will wear off over time. At that point, I'll turn it into a windbreaker.

All in all, it's a nice rain jacket for rainy days above 50F. It might not get all the attention that similar jerseys/jackets from's sister brand...get, but still a decent buy, especially at almost 40% off (at time of review).

For reference on size, I'm 5'9", 39" chest, 33" waist. Large fits well with extra room for layering.
