Why We Like The Shift MAG Photochromic Sunglasses

We like Smith's Shift MAG Photochromic Sunglasses because they're dialed in for speed. They give runners and cyclists alike every advantage so we'll never be caught without clear optics. The color-enhancing ChromaPop lens enhances color and contrast to make details pop, and a medium fit provides larger coverage. Megol temples provide non-slip grip so glasses stay in place, and two-click position adjustable fit Megol nose pads do the same.

Almost...

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I needed a set of frames for riding trails around Austin TX. Photochromatic lenses were a must since I would be riding in and out of shade and full sun. The amount of light transmission of the Mags lens is great for off-road use in constantly changing conditions. I wouldn't recommend these for full-sun road riding as they just don't get dark enough. My eyes are comfortable but I do find myself squinting a touch when riding directly towards the low sun. They vent really well and are perfect for my size medium head and oval face shape. These Mags are also not as cylindrical shaped as my Roka CP1x, which helps with ventilation too. Where the Smith Mags fail is in this new magnetic lens retention system. it's VERY easy to swap lenses in and out without putting your fingers directly on the lens. But the linkage and hinges that hold the frame and lens together feel flimsy, cheap and weak. during hard efforts where sweat drips from my helmet into the lens, I sometimes remove my glasses and holding both of the arms I gently tap the frame on my leg to knock down some of the sweat thats built up. the first handful of times I did this the lens would detached from a corner. not enough to come fully apart, but again, the retention is just not there for this kind of action. not a deal break, just something to be mindful off.

Shift MAG Photochromic

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Lens works really well for mountain biking, in and out of the trees sun and shade, quite a noticeable difference with the photochromic lens. clear lens as well for full cloudy days. Lens swap is dumb easy takes a whole 5 seconds. I prefer the fit of the Wildcat's larger frame but for a smaller face the Shift MAG would work well
