The all-new range busting Santa Cruz Chameleon 29 R Mountain Bike has us taking on post-work loops, trail days, and even backpacking days with new rigor. This 'one-size-fits-all' bike from Santa Cruz shows its commitment to versatility by being the bike that's always fun to ride. The long and slack geometry lends itself to downhill terrain while the svelt 130mm fork gets us quickly through twisty singletrack. A plentitude of mounts on the frame makes light use backpacking a breeze while the 29in wheels munch through various terrain. Whatever the trail throws at us we stay comfortable and confident aboard Santa Cruz's new fun-loving and rowdy-having hardtail.

Geometry on the 29er Chameleon sees slacker numbers, longer numbers, and numbers we're doing a double-take on thinking they belong on something with a lot more travel. The big-wheeled version of the bike gets a 65-degree head-tube angle which means better rollover capability and more confidence on steep terrain. The big 29er hoops tempt us to find flat-out speed wherever we can while out on the trail. RaceFace hoops are specced in a 30mm internal width and support huge 2.5in wide tires to provide grip and a bit more compliance.
