I have a Kuat NV 2 and got this for another vehicle and was surprised at how nice it was. If you want to save some money over higher end ones this is a good option. It does not have an integrated lock thought

For the price, this rack is extremely well built, and has some great features. I love the easily accessible tilt handle and the solid way it "clicks" into place. I added a $10 hitch tightener to help stabilize the up/down movement, and have full confidence in this rack for long trips. So far I haven't scraped it on anything, and am happy with the high positioning of the bikes. The lock mechanism is a little finicky, but seems as secure as what the other brands offer. The black finish and appearance of this rack looks great for the price point. Overall, I'm super pleased and highly recommend.

We have used this rack several times now and are very pleased. The Rocky Mounts Monorail is aesthetically pleasing, easy to build/install, easy to load/unload, and very solid/stable. We have had two 29er mountain bikes on the rack at highway speeds of 80+ and on rough country roads with no issues in either scenario.

I've had this a few months now. It's on an Early Bronco that I take into the mountains. It holds the bike securely and seems to be holding up to the abuse of stiff suspension. I really like the cable lock.

Simple and sturdy

I have been using it for a month now, it was fairly simple to install, last part of fixing the rack to the cycle gets a little trick, you will need someone to hold the weight (It’s heavy and feels very sturdy). I drive pretty fast, rough and hard on breaks. Cycles shakes a little bit but they stay on without issue. I have a 1.5” hitch on my Subaru Impreza, I felt the rack part would have been better if it went in a little more, probably would reduce the shaking to zero. While backing up once I hit an invisible black pillar in parking lot in the dark, luckily there was no cycle, and the bottom part of the folded rack, (one connected to the hitch) hit the pillar and has a small dent, saved my car, and can still fit cycles without issues works just fine. I like quality, sturdy, install it, and forget it, kind of products. That’s what this one is. It does get dusty, not sure if it rusts, if left in open for long. I got an awesome deal from competitive cyclist. Worth every penny. Get this and don’t worry about your cycles, ✌️. Thanks to this rack, I enjoy cycling downhills now.

I've been using the MonoRail rack for several weeks now and love it. It's easy to use, provides safe and secure transport for my mountain bike and is built for the long haul (literally and figuratively). I live in the Arizona desert and drive my truck on lots of dirt roads. It would be great if RockyMounts could figure out a way to keep dust off the rack and bike, but that may be asking too much. Otherwise, this is a great rack. It is a bit heavy, but that only means it is well built and will last the rest of my life (I'm 66).

I have the 1.25" version on my 2002 Outback. Hitch pin eliminated sideways motion and I bought a hitch tightener ($15) to eliminate the up/down movement which was still possible with only the included hitch pin. Tilted down, I have no problem opening my tailgate with a 2012 Giant Reign on the rack closest to the car. One particularly nice feature of the rack is that the lever that you actuate to move the rack up and down is on the end of the rack so you never need to reach through or around the rack to adjust the position like other racks I looked into. Overall solid rack and you can't beat the price.

Solid rack, great value

I've had mine for over a year now, and held off leaving a review until it had been through a harsh Utah winter. I ride everything from a 4.8" fat bike, to a 23mm road bike, and this rack handles them all (fat bike requires a longer ratchet strap). I ride year-round, so this rack has been on my Subaru Outback non-stop, and has held up to Utah's salty roads quite nicely. I have the Tork-Lift hitch, which tucks up under the bumper better than some of the cheaper brands, so ground clearance has not been an issue for me. I could see that clearance could be a bit low if your hitch hangs down. We all know that cable locks are barely better than nothing, so I have chosen not to use them on this rack, opting for a Kryptonite chain instead. I'd buy this rack again without hesitation, but it looks like I won't have to for years to come. Save some money....buy this rack.

This is a very beautiful, well-made rack. I am very pleased with this purchase. Great design. Aesthetics are nice too! The handle for stowing or tipping is very easily accessible. When tipped back, the rear hatch of a 2018 VW Atlas easily clears, which gives plenty of space to access the cargo area without removing the bike. Bikes are up high and dry up off the ground. I don't think there will be any clearance issues on steep driveways as others had. Lock cables that comes with it is long enough. The locks that came with it seem a bit cheap, but that's my only complaint. I bought the additional tray to get a 3rd bike capacity. So glad I didn't spend the extra $170 for the Kuat NV base ($590 vs $320). This RockyMounts rack seems to have everything you could as for.

Does anyone have this on a Toyota Tacoma? Does the tail gate clear when the platform is pivoted down? How sturdy does it feel tilted down with some bikes in the trays? Thanks for the help!

RockyMounts MonoRail Platform Hitch Rack

I had been looking for a nice receiver hitch rack for my Jeep JKU that would not break the bank. After the Competitive Cyclist discount this rack was very affordable. I took a chance on it and could not be more impressed. Easy to assemble, very quick and easy to use, folds up out of the way when not in use. It holds my Trek Fuel ex9 perfectly. Locking system is ok, like most it is meant to be a deterrant only. Very nice quality. I would highly recommend to a friend or family member.

So far, so good! This rack is well built, and very easy to assemble. It handles everything from my road bikes to my fat bike without adapters. I dislike the cable lock system that comes with most racks these days, and this one is no exception. It tightens into the hitch nicely, so there isn't much wobble. If there was a 4.5 star option, I'd select that. If the security system was just a touch better, this rack would earn all 5 stars. Time will tell how well it holds up to Utah's salty roads, but so far, so good!

Not for Steep Driveways

First let me say that if you never have to deal with transporting bikes up steep driveways or over uneven ground-- this rack is pretty darn cool! And solid!! I just put mine together. This RockyMounts Monorail is the replacement for a Yakima 2-UP rack gone bad from rust and wear after just 5-years (North Carolina Weather isn't that rugged). BUT I was really sad to learn on my first trip into my driveway that it cannot clear the pavement even without bikes on it. It sticks out too far in back. Yakima overcame this with a curved design for a spine. You can see in the picture what I'm talking about. I'm very bummed. Believe me it's a nice rack in many other ways, but it cannot get up my driveway and Yakima was able to clear easily even with two bikes on board.

Seems solidly built and holds both by road and mtn bikes very securely. It does require a small amount of assembly - probably took me 20 mins to put the wheel trays on. It's nice that it comes with locks for the rack and bikes, but I wouldn't call them very elegantly integrated and the plastic lock housing doesn't inspire great confidence. I'd use a separate cable or u lock if you're leaving it parked anywhere iffy.
