Description

Alpha Two 16in Single Speed Bike

As your young cyclist starts testing their boundaries, they need a tool that can keep up with their rapidly increasing skills. The Prevelo Kids' Alpha Two 16in Single Speed Bike is the ride they need to get to the next level. Learning to balance and respond to the movement of the bike is a challenge for their developing physiological system, but it's an achievement that will shape their future, and the Prevelo geometry helps by keeping them low to the ground for balance. Brake levers specifically designed to fit their growing hands make it easy to control the V-brakes that give them the confidence that they’ll be able to stop the bike on cue. The cranks are custom made for each version of the Alpha, meaning your crusher will have an anatomically correct pedaling experience. Knowing that kids come in all sizes—and regularly change sizes—Prevelo included a bonus seat post for additional height adjustment, and the tool you need to switch them out.
  • Single-speed bike for ages four to six
  • Low, narrow geometry makes balancing easier
  • Tektro brake levers are small-hand-friendly
  • V-brakes inspire confidence in speed control
  • Internally housed cables minimize tangles
  • Bonus seat post for additional height options
  • Double chain ring guard limits possible bumps

Great bike

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

My 4 1/2 year-old average coordination, somewhat tentative grandson had become very comfortable with his Strider balance bike. When the Alpha Two arrived he helped me assemble the handle bar and seat, both of which were easy with provided tools and just hopped right on and zoomed. Then we put on the pedals, also quite simple with provided tool. He had never pedaled anything so that was foreign and I unwittingly did not help by having him start out on grass and holding the seat and handle bar. Also the seat was not quite high enough for efficient pedaling. Session 1 ended in frustration. After watching a bunch of videos IMO this was clearly the best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imPQ3lysWnU. Going by its instructions it took him about 30 seconds in session 2 to figure everything out and I simply followed close behind, within range to grab him under the armpits if he fell, though he did not. The bike arrived well packed with all necessary parts including the short seat post and tools. This bike is good looking and is light weight and easy for him to handle himself. It pedals easily, maneuvers easily and stops well. The hand brakes are sized for the child and are easy to use as is everything else. The tires are suitable for on-road and light off-road use. I am quite confident this bike will form a foundation for love of biking and am very happy I made this purchase. If you read about teaching kids to ride bikes you will learn that training wheels, heavy frames and coaster brakes (pedal-actuated) are not the way to go. Spend the money and get your kid to love biking from day 1.
