Pivot's Mach 6 Carbon has earned its reputation for hard charging fun, and got some beefy updates to push that versatility even further for 2017. Additionally, the Pivot Mach 6 XT Race Complete Mountain Bike lands with aluminum construction that maintains the stiffness and power transfer of its costly carbon counterpart to give that renowned ride a more accessible price point. It mirrors the lines and geometry of the carbon version, with a bigger, slacker, and all around burlier design than the previous Mach 6 that pushes the limits of all-mountain utility and boosts its predecessor's venerable versatility to handle all-day trail epics and hard-charging lift laps alike. Kitted out with a blend of Shimano componentry, this bike is ready for whatever adventure you have planned.
The frame updates manifest primarily in the rear triangle, with a double wishbone rear triangle that's clearly carrying some DH DNA and an ambitious upper linkage design that's 40% wider and engages the frame with larger bearings. Pivot continues the boosted trend to the rear axle with a new Boost 148mm standard to usher the Mach 6 into the modern era of enduro. The cumulative effect of these changes is a claimed 150% increase in rear triangle stiffness, meaning that—though the new Mach 6 leaves a wide, DH footprint—it still climbs more like a four-inch XC bike.
The DW-Link suspension design governing the Mach 6's six-inches of travel also does its part to maintain a secure climbing hold on rocky trails. Its anti-squat tendencies maintain a firm pedaling platform while cleaning terrain-riddled cruxes or picking lines with abandon across trail furniture. That responsiveness is matched on the opposite end of travel with a square-edge capacity that feels virtually bottomless
