Oink oink.

Cleaning a chain can be a pain, unless you have Pedro's Chain Pig to do most of the work for you. It clips onto your derailleur for hands-free operation, uses just one ounce of degreaser per cleaning, and has a built-in sponge to minimize mess and dripping. The brush, the most important feature of the Chain Pig, has extra-large and tough bristles for efficient scrubbing, and the housing is made from chemical-resistant plastic, so you'll get years of shiny chains.

  • Works with multi-speed bikes and most single-speed bikes
  • Pro-grade brushes and super-absorbent sponge
  • Clamps onto rear derailleur with Pig Tail
  • Uses one-ounce of degreaser

Trying to find a chain cleaner that fits on a SS setup. Park Tools is too tall to fit between the chain and the chain stay. Anyone know if this fits specifically a Niner ONE

it even won over an off roader

bought the pig pen cleaning kit and gave to my buddy, whose solution to a dirty chain is more and more lube. he has high end road, cyclo, and mtn bikes. a crying shame. i pestered him until he poured in the pedros cleaning solution, hooked up the cleaner over the chain and gave the drivetrain a scrub. he had forgotten he had a shiny silver kmc chain. it took quite a few cycles but after relubeing the chain, he conceded the thing worked ok. ironically, he went on and cleaned all of the drivetrains on all of his bikes. he won't admit it, but his wife says he is a convert now. i will say that i have gone thru a bunch of chain scrubbing systems, nashbar, a couple of park tool ones, but this one works the best for me and is the most fuss free. give it a shot, you got nothing to lose but missed shifts and lost wattage.

Not the eyes! Not the eyes!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am way stoked on the pig! I have used my chain pig 4 times now and it does an amazing job of getting a chain clean without the usual manual scrubbing, and it is pretty efficient on de-greaser, so it will save you a little cash in the long run. I owned the old pedros chain scrubber a few years back and liked it, but it suffered a short life span and the latching system that attached it to the rear derailleur did not work so you had to hold it, which was no big deal, but I was pretty happy with the fact that the metal tail on the chain pig works perfectly so you are free to waive to your neighbor while cleaning your chain.
My one gripe, which I felt was worth knocking 2 stars off, is that one of the eyes, which serve a the release latch for the pig, broke off the third time I used it. I was a little bummed about it, as I really wasn't being too forceful, but the latch is just a piece of thin flexing plastic. Still worth 3 stars though, because even with one eye, it still stays closed and works without issue. I will probably get creative with some superglue to fix and reinforce it, but felt it was worth noting.

Beware the eyes, and enjoy clean chains.

Lube sparingly and clean often for a happy and quiet drivetrain.

Great - With one design suggestion

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've owned the pig for about 6 months and have found it to be a great product. Put the little silver hook on your derailleur, snap on the top half, fill up to the line with degreaser, and then spin the pedals backwards for a bit until your chain sparkles. Pretty simple and very effective. You will still have to use a towel afterwards and scrub off the last little faint wisps of dirt/grease if you want to eat off of your chain, but no tool is going to get you to that level of clean while the chain is still on your bike.

My one design suggestion is to improve the strength of the plastic snap arms (one on each side that have a circle at the end that catch on the other half to keep the thing closed around the chain). One broke off a couple of months after I started using the pig and then the other snapped within a week or two after that. Since they both broke off, I simply hold the pig closed with my hand and it still works just fine. It isn't enough of a bother to lay out the cash for a new one, but it is a weak point for the device that, if possible, I'd love to see improved. Even given this design flaw, I think the product is worth the initial investment and I enjoy using it.

Same thing happened to mine. The two side clips secure it without me having to use my hand. Best chain cleaner I have used so far otherwise.

    Cleans Quick Without a Mess

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love a clean shiny bike, but sometimes to degrease the chain can be really messy and time-consuming as I'm using a paintbrush, and it can use quite an amount of degreaser, and cleaning up later is also very much of a pain to do so.

I've read a review on the Pedro's Chain Pig and decided to give is a try, and I have to say I was impressed on how easy it performed, how little degreaser was needed, and how quick it took me to get rid of all the stuff on my bike chain in less than 5 minutes!

I think I'm never going to need to worry about making a mess anymore, overall I'm really glad I made this purchase.
