External Bearing Bottom Bracket Socket
Give Pedro's External Bearing Bottom Bracket Socket and a breaker bar to the new guy and watch him strip aluminum treads with minimal effort. This socket's heat-treated S2 tool steel gives it incredible strength, and in the wrong hands, well, it can get real ugly quick. In the right hands, it can break free stubborn or seized external bottom brackets.Pedro's External Bearing Bottom Bracket Socket is compatible with all 16-notch external bearing BB cups. Its versatile design works with 24mm sockets and wrenches, a square 1/2in drive, or in a bench vise.

Is this compatible with the lock rings used on centerlock disc brakes?

Had it forever
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Heat treated steel, wrench flats, knurled texture. What's not to love? I have yet to meet a bottom bracket that this could not remove. If you like overhauling your own bike, pick one of these up, you wont be sorry.

The tool for the job!
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
For all too long I used slim dedicated BB tools that worked, but dug into your hand during use, took up too much room in the toolbox, and typically didn't give you the best leverage during use. This is my go to tool for external bearings like found on my Shimano XT BB. Being able to fix this to my 1/2 drive makes BB install and removal a breeze. I highly recommend upgrading this part of your tool box if you haven't already.

Works like a charm
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
This is so much better for installing/removing external BB cups. I was using a slim wrench before picking this and while doing the job, it was a pain and tended to mar the cups up. This gets the job done with ease and with no marks.

You want this one
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This is the tool you need if you are removing/installing Shimano or GXP type external bearing bottom brackets. The 1/2" socket is nice because you can attach it to a breaker bar without an adapter.

It depends on the lockring type. Newer SHIMANO XT M8010 Centerlock Rotor Lockrings will work with this, but if it is the older type you would need this type of lockring tool. https://www.competitivecyclist.com/shimano-tl-lr15-lockring-removal-tool?s=a If you have any more feel free to hit me up at abytendorp@backcountry.com.
