Back-Roller Pro Plus Panniers

There are a couple of differences between Ortlieb's Back-Roller Pro Plus Panniers and the Back-Roller Classics. The biggest difference is the capacity; together, the classics have a 40L capacity, and the Pro Plus Panniers boast a staggering 70L storage. Ortlieb also updated the Back-Roller Pro Plus with a durable Cordura fabric treated to shed water spray from raindrops and splashes. There's also an additional exterior pocket that, although not waterproof, is perfect for sunscreen, water bottles, or storing wet things. Apart from those, this Pro Plus is identical to the Back-Roller Classic.

Both the Classic and Pro Plus models feature Ortlieb's innovative QL2.1 system that lets you mount and release each pannier with a simple pull of a handle. Each pannier automatically locks onto the rack the moment you mount it; it's compatible with 16mm racks, but Ortlieb includes hook inserts to fit 8, 10, and 12mm racks as well. The QL2.1 system also features a semi-elliptical hook at the bottom that you can adjust and rotate to fit your rack so the pannier doesn't bounce as much as regular panniers. Ortlieb also added 3M Scotchlite reflectors to further enhance the visibility needed to ride in low light.

  • Pannier updated with a larger capacity for longer bike tours
  • Roll-top and treated Cordura shed water spray and block dust
  • QL2.1 system eases mounting and releasing off of most racks
  • Adjustable, rotating bottom hook reduces abrasion and scratching
  • Adjustable shoulder strap with padding can fix to hook
  • 3M Scotchlite reflectors on both side for extra visibility

Worth it

I meet all my transportation needs with a bicycle. I live off my bicycle. These bags are awesome. Roll them down when not carrying much, 35 liters a piece when you have items to move. Completely water proof, been caught in some proper downpours. Outside mesh pocket is great too, extra water bottle, whisky, fuel bottles, all fit great. Inside pocket with a zipper to hold your items. Easy to install, easy to remove (pull up a handle), easy to carry. Great reflective parts on the sides, always nice to have a bit more visibility. The first pair that was sent to me, had a strap that was not fastened. Backcountry was fantastic to deal with. They sent out, air no less, a new set. Put the broken in the box and sent them back. Looking forward to using these bags for years to come, and I will definitely be using this site again. Thanks for your time, enjoy your rides.

Arguably the best panniers in the world

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Why are Ortliebs the most widely used panniers in the world? Okay, I get it now. This model comfortably holds a great deal of your gear, I consider them lightweight (particularly given their level of durability - I know of folks who have owned and used these for many happy years of cycle touring), being waterproof is a huge plus, they are well designed and fit pretty much any rear rack (and are adjustable), and they are easy to secure on to your rack, to remove them from your rack, and carry them around using their built-in handles. They're all I could ask for in panniers, including their reflective safety badge facing on-coming cars/trucks/buses. Totally sold on Ortlieb and now also own their bikepacking saddle and handlebar packs.

Can this pannier pack flat for travel?

Huge Panniers

Plenty of space for long trips. Not too heavy for shorter trips. Quality built.

Awesome Panniers

I've used it several times

I've used these a few times on longer rides and even to farmers markets. They can fit just about everything except the kitchen sink, attach easily, and hold up really well so far.
