Mavic's Ksyrium Elite Helmet brings the hard-nosed hardman ethos of the wheelset of the same name to the head protection department. Like the wheels, the Ksyrium Elite Helmet incorporates features of its more expensive stablemates, including the Ergo Hold SL Retention System, a generous pattern of 22 vents, and Mavic's weight trimming Ergo Shape helmet body design.
While it isn't as light as the superlative Cosmic Ultimate, the Ksyrium Elite only weighs a claimed 270g, putting it in a class similar to most other manufacturers' top-end models. Low weight doesn't come at the cost of comfort, though; the Ksyrium Elite benefits from the same cranial mapping tests that helped define the shape of Mavic's most expensive helmets.
These tests helped Mavic identify the not-so-obvious pressure points and contours so the interior shape of the helmet maps the curves of the skull. Mavic's Ergo Hold SL Retention System dials that fit across 6cm of one-handed, on-the-fly size adjustment, and a removable visor lets you add sun and rain protection without the bulk of a hat.

- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
I bought this as a gift for a little boy of my town. He is starting to compete in national games and he needed good protection. I bought the small size (he is 13 years old). And he loves it. The design is very nice, it is one of those helmets that doesn't look to bulky.
