Description

G1 MIPS Helmet

With safety and low weight a priority, Lazer made their lightest helmet yet with the G1 MIPS, built for top-level racing and training. A redesigned fit system and improved ventilation, as well as a sleeker profile than previous models, make the G1 feel light as air while riding, with the protection we need on the road.

Lazer’s Rollsys retention system provides a 360degree fit and comfort in a lightweight design. While most helmets have the dial on the back, the G1’s retention system adjusts from the top of the helmet, placing it out of the way of caps or ponytails for greater comfort while we ride. The 22 vents pull air through the helmet’s shell to both ventilate and cool as well as improve aerodynamics for every advantage on race day.

Lazer included two sets of pads with the G1, race or comfort, for either lighter weight or thicker padding, depending on your needs. The G1 MIPS is compatible with Lazer's Aeroshell, available separately, for increased aerodynamic advantage by covering most of the vents, which we also appreciate for colder weather riding. For added peace of mind, a MIPS layer in the G1 redirects rotational forces in the event of an impact.

  • Superlight road helmet with MIPS protection
  • Advanced Rollsys system adjusts for 360degree comfort
  • Compatible with Lazer’s Aeroshell for aerodynamic and weather advantage
  • 22 vents enhance cooling by pulling air through helmet
  • Includes race and comfort pad options to suit your preference

i keep things for a LONG time, even repairing 20+ y/o capilene or replacing my locally made Moonstone goretex jacket after more yrs w an arc'teryx alpha sv. So, yes this is spendy. I came to this both as highest rated and light. I cldnt figure out the knurl on top immediately until i watched what it did when off my head. after i found out how it cynches up i found the way it gently hugs yr head all the way around to be like a dream. i also bought the correct aeroshell to clip over. i expect to be using this gorgeous helmet for at least a decade.

I had researched this purchase for a good year or more looking for the best non mushroom helmet for my big noggin. It did have a low profile, tighter fit, which was good. However I have to confirm what another reviewer wrote. The tightening fit mechanism didn't work for me. I couldn't get it to fit as snug as the standard wire systems. Also, the space above my ear to the bottom of the helmet was excessively large leaving a huge gap in protection. Maybe it was just my noggin, but I'm pretty sure I read a similar review that mentioned the same issue.

Can't beat the weight and ventilation on this helmet but the fit and styling suffer in my view. My Smith and POC look and fit better, but are both hot for LA riding. This Lazer has a minimalist profile that looks a little funky on my head, but it is certainly the coolest and lightest helmet I've ever owned. Everything else will feel heavy once you wear this thing.

After seeing these on the road and hearing positive comments I went with the G1 MIPS when it was time to repalce my 10 year old Spesh road helmet. Unfortunately none of my glasses will stash in the vents and the retention dial on top (or whatever it is called) is a major downgrade from the dial in the back of every other helmet I have had (road or mtb) the past fifteen years. I can never seem to get it to really snug up and turning the dial repeatedly makes very little change in adjustment. I guess if I had a ponytail or something having the dial on top would make sense but at least it should function. Chalk up one win in the looks department, provided you haven't tried to stash your Oakley's and have them protruding awkwardly from the vents, cantilevered out but just out of sight.

G1 has a head basket featuring vertical adjustment which ships in the box in the highest position. Pulling the head basket down applies additional hold on the base of the skull which should give you that “hold” you’re seeking.

The main selling point for me wast the Virginia Tech rating, plus that it fits. I got this after returning a POC helmet that just did not fit. This G1 MIPS fits much better. It looks similar to other helmet brands I've owned (Bell, Giro). The fastening dial is easy to use at least when new out of the box, hopefully it stays that way. The contour of the helmet is higher where it crosses the forehead, which I don't understand unless that is to appease the type of customer who would otherwise tip the helmet back (incorrect) like a baseball cap. I prefer the lines of a helmet that come straight across but it's not bad. It does not seem any lighter than other helmets, but it's a good weight.

3-Stars because cannot get it to "tighten-up" to the point I prefer....having used the Lazer Z1 MIPS (my favorite go to helmet) for over a year, was stoked about the potential of the G1....I would still recommend it because #1 - it's a Lazer, #2 - the Flo Orange is AWESOME -- it POPS...much like my Z1 Flo Yellow ... Hi-Viz is the way to go....#3 - LIGHT Weight is an understatement

This was one of the few higher end race helmets that actually fit my head. I have a 55 cm circumference head and most brands would recommend a size medium but when trying on I have to to size large and even that would be narrow and give me pressure points on the sides of my head on long rides. I wasn’t a fan on how it looked at first but when I was finally able to wear a size medium helmet that fit me just right it looked a lot better wearing it.

Has one of the highest ratings on the virgina tech test which is why i purchased it. I've gone on several long rides now and it's awesome. Similar to what others have said, you barely notice it on your head, it's that comfortable! Venting is also great, all rides in 90+ F weather and it ventilated extremely well. I will definitely be purchasing the aeroshell once it gets a bit cooler.

Pro's: Weight: very light Retention strap: adjusts from top of helmet--really cool Visibility: high vis orange is great Looks: looked awesome on Con's: Large did not fit my 60-61cm oval head. The restraining strap still had room to go out further it just did not feel good/right. As I'm reading the reviews and now experiencing trying on a couple of MIPS helmets--the MIPS inserts make the helmet smaller so definitely keep that in mind. The retention straps were very different from any helmet I've tried on before and definitely had a different feel. I think I could have gotten used to it had the fit been good.

I've been riding with the G1 for a month. It is very comfortable and super light. I have to touch it to convince myself it is there. I use a do-rag which I notice much more than the helmet.

Lightweight and Safe!

I've been riding with this helmet for about a month now and I've been nothing but impressed. This helmet is so light you almost forget it's on your head, but just because it's light doesn't mean it isn't safe. In fact, this one of the safest helmets you can get today. The helmet earned 5 stars in the Virginia Tech Helmet testing which means it's one of the "Best Available" according to their strenuous tests. Before wearing the helmet I thought the Lazer’s Rollsys retention system was a bit of a gimmick but it really is more comfortable than traditional type behind the head adjustments. The helmet vents really well and you forget it's there because of how light and comfortable it is. I find the sizing to be true to size. I went with the medium in this helmet and it's super comfy. For comparison, I also wear a medium in Bell and Giro.

Jonathon: I just got a G1, and although it is very comfortable and lightweight, I have sweat just pouring down my forehead. Seems worse that with Bell, Giro. I have little hair. Could I be doing something wrong as far as the fit? Also- the pads are very similar- is red comfort or race? Pretty tough to tell any difference. Thanks.
